I think while not as strong as Fear, they're certainly continuing in the same overall vein and approach, perhaps because they've found a recipe for success in our small community as one of your blog posts alluded.  The new album is still quite enjoyable, though, and certainly worth picking up.

Man, the live Masada albums are tasty. Particularly Live in Sevilla. The version of "Beeroth" on there is amazing.

Listening to 5UU'S "Regarding Purgatories". Man this is such an interesting trip.Debbie Perry(THINKING PLAGUE) adds some vocals and we have Keith Macsound(PRESENT) on bass but hey it's the Dave Kerman show as he composed it all and plays just about everything. The keyboards might be the most interesting thing about the sound here.I'm so glad to know his band as strange as this music is.LOL

Listening to one of my favourite ART ZOYD albums in "Berlin".The big surprise is that it was released in 1987 which i swear was the worst year in music for me.So yeah this was a bright spot.I don't know what it is about this one but i love it.It's maybe not as dynamic or dark or experimental as some as it stays on a fairly even keel but this one infactuates me.

The more I listen to late period 5UU's (the last two albums) the more I like them. Hard to say which one I like more, but I think RP takes it over Abandonship. Meteora is probably my favorite 5UUs track.

Wonderful album. Honestly, I know that the eary period is the one that seems to get the most praise, but I absolutely love the middle period (and even the later period). AZ's Faust is such a fantastic disc (and I think the closest in sound to Berlin at least that I've heard) and Berlin is right behind it IMO. The opening track is a true Tour-De-Force that I think is an excellent Summery of this point in AZ's career.

Yes that middle period does seem to take a back seat to the earlier stuff but i agree i don't think it should. I probably didn't notice this until recently because i've been binging on their records. Same with 5UU'S i just listened to Hunger's Teeth tonight and i love  "Well...Not Chickensh*t"LOL but overall i prefer Regarding Purgatories.It's interesting though listening to these left wing,communist lyrics.They make me smile even if i don't necessarily agree with them all.This is what's Rio is all about though.Wyatt would be proud.

5UUs are a funny band for me. I've always liked the other "American RIO" artists much more...especially Thinking Plague and U Totem. But those last two albums have certainly grown on me. Then I'd probably give it to the early stuff before those middle two albums. Though Well...Not Chickensh*t is one of my favorite songs from them. Haha.
 
And it's true. I often forget the political bent of the original movement, but you're right, thats what it's all about. To be honest, I usually ignore most of the lyrics in my RIO (not becausr if their content just because vocals in this style to me work better as another instrument rather than a lyric delivering device). Embarrassed

Regarding AZ, I am going through their whole discography on Spotify, now I am on Häxan. I have to say, this band so far  has been surprising me of never going stale, but always finding new sounds and new ways of expressing themselves. Of course there do repeat themselves on occasion, but as a rule they always come out with t fresh ideas.

I agree with you Phil the lyrics aren't important at all,i just find them amusing sometimes.I'm not sure how serious they took the lyrics either as some of it seems to be sarcastic with a humerous bent to it. I listened to ART BEARS' "Winter Songs" the other day and purposely read the lyrics and didn't find any of it left wing but maybe they use symbolism a lot,who knows? Great album though.I'm not sure why i'm so drawn to the sound on that one.Of course having Cutler and Frith along with Dagmar on vocals is nothing to sneeze at.

Speaking of AZ, if anyone needs one of the earlier discs (mini-lp japanese version), I have some for sale... and many other RIO/avant discs... check the link in my sig.

I think Metropolis is a severely under-rated Art Zoyd album.  It's very sinister and mechanical- totally industrial...

Why aren't Mujician part of Avant/RIO on (Progarchives) here yet?  They are an avant jazz ensemble on Cuneiform recs. (so you know it's good!)...

I can't get over how much i like Art Zoyd's "Le Marriage Du Ciel Et De L'enfer". This is the one just before "Berlin" and for some reason this time period really clicks with me.I'm going to listen to "Generation Sans Futur" in a few days.Should be interesting because i consider that my favourite but now i'm starting to wonder.

"Faust" by ART ZOYD is pretty amazing too.It's the newest one i have by them released in 1995.Like "Nosferatu" it was released as a soundtrack to an old silent movie.I like this better than "Nosferatu" though,it's not as minimalistic and creepy.

Anybody out there who has downloaded the free Dure-Mere album? People in this thread: Please do yourself a favor and use 5 minutes of your pathetic lives and enrich it with some new original avant that features the Bandoneon (harmonica). 

I like the current discussion on Art Zoyd. My fave is probably Musique Pour L`Odyseé.
Outside the tag RIO/Avant try out Miradas by Canzonieri del Lazio or Cabezas de Cera´s last outing - both of them are mind-blowingly terrific!

Okay the other side of the coin is ART BEARS' "The World As It Is Today" with titles like "The Song Of Investment Capital Overseas" , "Truth" , "Freedom(Armed) Peace" , "Civilisation" , "Democracy" , "The Song Of The Martyrs" , "Law" , "The Song Of The Monopolists" , "The Song Of The Dignity Of Labour Under Capital"  and "Albion Awake !" And lots of left wing lyrics too of course.Good album and Dagmar really shines here.The lyrics make me smile though.

After listenening to all my 5UU'S albums of late i have to say that "Abandonship" is my favourite.I just checked my review on it and noticed i've already stated that so i guess this is confirmationBig smile.Udi did an amazing job on the sound on this one.
