I'm an adolescent (I hate the term teenager; too many stupid cliches that are related) and I LOVE GENESIS.

Sorry about the last post. Just finding my way !

I remember listening to Foxtrot on my 17th birthday way back in 19something. It was a horizon expanding experience at the time and was one of those albums I couldn't wait to play. In many ways, early Genesis is the ideal band for the young prog fan, because the Genesis members themselves were very young when they made this music (all about 22) - certainly younger than other prog bands at the time.

And to be honest, that youth comes across in the music, gradually maturing. Curiously, I find it hard to listen to any Genesis outside of their 1973/4 efforts now.

I'm 17, and I'm surprised myself that I'm not really into Genesis. I have SEBP and Nursery Cryme and neither of them do much for me. There are moments that I like, but I don't feel very compelled to listen to them. I've liked bands like Yes and Rush since I was 11 (although most kids like Rush I think), and Genesis seems like a band that I would like.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they end up being like Mike Oldfield to me. I thought his music was pretty boring at first, but it crept up on me, and now I want more of his albums.

What a silly question.
Some teenagers can - others might find it difficult listening to a grown man wearing a red dress.

13 is the IDEAL age to get into prog. It doesn't matter, in fact, about the genre. Whatever a young boy or girl hears at 13, if it's something entirely new to them (ie. not the radio), it is natural to fall in love with it. For some people it was The Beatles, others Metallica, others Justin Bieber........... for me it was Yes, but I bet it would work even with Gentle Giant or Van der Graaf.

I guess you´ve got a point, but on the other hand you could say 13 is the perfect age to get into cannibalism. We are just very susceptible and gullible around that age.

My daughter even not a teenager (7 yrs)
But when she was 5, whe was impressed very much with Genesis "Foxtrot"  , but rather not music but video show, where Gabriel wear different masks and stage costumes.

The scariest moment of this show is when the band playing Apocalypse in 9/8, the stage darkens, and Gabriel appears in "magog" mask  . She called him "guy with square head", and even drew herself a picture of him

I'm 18 now, but I started listening to Genesis when I was about 12. So yes, yes they can. In fact, I'd argue it's a great time to get people into prog (or whatever genre) since as people mentioned before, it's a very music-susceptible age.

That's the most adorable thing I've ever heard. Also, mental note to give my future children old Genesis concert footage.

I was referring to everyone on PA, not you specifically. This was a terrible troll thread, but people keep reviving it for some reason. Believe it or not, not everything is about you.

The point isn't that you or any other individual doesn't have the "right" to post in this or any other thread, just that it's exasperating to see people bumping a thread which is not only more than a year old but also based on a completely ridiculous premise. It's a debate that never needed to happen, yet one year later people are still seemingly intent on having it. It's baffling.

Edit: Never mind, Henry beat me to it.
