I can't read straight philosophy, anymore. I read Beyond Good and Evil, The Gay Science, half of Republic, and the first page of Rand's Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, and realized that I'd rather be stabbing my eyes out. |
The only philosopher I refuse to read is Hegel, I mean, does anyone other than Hegel know what the f**k he meant by half the things he espoused?

When it comes to A Scanner Darkly, I'd wholeheartedly take the book - it loses half the humor and pity in film. Reeves is a dreadful pick - he's too...himself. Darkly was about much more than drugs - it was about the entire late 1960's/early 1970's drug revolution, psychological paranoia, self-delusional, dying-inside culture. It's the only book Dick wrote (that I've read so far, and I've read ten or so) that discarded the science fiction disguise (whilst still retaining the headdress) and gave a stunningly realistic plot. |
I'm sure I'll probably end up preferring the book once I read it, but I enjoy the movie.

I have no interest to read straight-up philosophy.
Ah well, I must get myself to bed...get to sleep in about 45 minutes tomorrow, and I'm now up ~45 minutes later than normal. Seeya!

Pure philosophy doesn't interest me because I like to think and feel, simultaneously. I love philosophy, but within the context of a grand, sweeping, beautiful plot.

I know what you mean Dustin, I'm beginning to feel the same way. Especially epistemological thought, it becomes intensely complex and very dry after a while... but within the context of a narrative, then at least the imagination can breathe life into it.

Man, all this talk of literature makes me want to read. Haven't done so in awhile and haven't been doing it regularly. :|

Meany :( I forgive you We came back early because our boat engine was pooping its pants. Turns out last August when we took it in for service they f**ked up the float and it can't take in water properly. Wtf is the point of going camping without drunk waterskiing?

It was way too hot to not be in the water, and the mosquitos were rampant, so yeah it was kind of crappy. Evenings are nice out there, at least.
