Uhhh - that sounds very interesting. Just checking the Giovane Madre track off that album. Gotta love those PA streams.
Alright - I´m sold, only took me a minute. You are a very bad man Jim - don´t you know you will put me out on the street with those sorts of recommendations?LOL

i would recommend to anybody the lost gem from 1973 called La Storia di Sabazio by Triade. One of the most deeply moving Italian group albums i have ever heard-an early ELP styled trio full of great technique wedded with a lot of feeling-

Yup.  Like Rusticelli Bordini and Toto Torquati, Triade is a keys-lover's delight that gets too little attention.  Good pick.

That was just reissued by Esoteric.  I haven't heard their version, but they generally do a good job with their reissues, I think.  It had been out of print for a while, so the reissue is quite welcome.

I've been saying that now for several years!  It's really amazing how deep the Italian Progressive scene was and is.  But what a wonderful, beautiful journey of discovery!

Triade is wonderful!  I think my favorite of the 70s keyboard based bands are Latte e Miele, Le Orme, and Metamorfosi, but Triade is certainly right up there in the top five or six.

Of the more current keyboard driven bands, check out Nuova Era.

Thanks for the heads up Todd, regarding that reissue! Just need a sugar mama and her bank account, and I´ll be on cloud nine with a huge stereo!

Alright here goes. I´ve been wondering about something, that, most likely, only those who are Italians can answer. Up here in Scandinavia, the different languages are very close to each other, - which means that I can perfectly understand what, either a Norwegian or a Swede is saying to me - as long as he doesn´t use slang or ramble along like a rapper on caffeine. Finland, Iceland and The Faeroe Isles are pretty much outside this rather peculiar circle of understanding, and I have no understanding of their lingo.
So, during my French studies, I picked up quite an amount of words, sentences and different characteristics - which seemed to lie very close to those of the Italian language. It´s a different intonation, just like Swedish is far more melodic than danish - which is very flat, - but either way, a lot of the things i do pick up when I´m listening to RPI, I manage to do through French. It´s the same way around with Spanish, that also features a lot of common ground with the French. A long time ago, I had Latin, and because I enjoyed The Doors (The End - and all of it´s connotations) I got really caught up in it, and ever since I´ve seen many similarities in languages, - and especially between Italian, Spanish and French. I know it´s not entirely the same as up here in the cold north, but here´s my question: Do you understand each other on some sort of level? OR am I totally offConfused

Yeah, they're good too!

I suppose you could include Banco in the keyboard driven bands, since they had two keyboardists.  If you count them, they're number one.

(By the way presdoug, speaking of great keyboard driven bands, your avatar bears a striking resemblance to Triumvirat's Jurgen Fritz . . . )

Nuova Era, noted down! Thanks, Todd!

The Trip (Atlantide and Time of Change) also noted, thanks presdoug!

I think the biggest problem is deciding what to pay for when.   I have dozens on my current list (thanks to Jim too!) and have been struggling to decide which album to buy next. Do I expand my Banco albums, polish off Osanna, go to an artist I've never heard before? So many delicious choices! Tongue

^ It's tough, I know.  Just follow your gut, its good to get recommendations, but the journey of discovery is half the fun.  Gut instinct.  I suspect yours are pretty darn good!

You're pretty close, it is former Triumvirat guitarist/vocalist the late Helmut Koellen, who happened to also be Jurgen Fritz's cousin
          And i love Banco!

When I first started delving deeper I tended to go for a wider variety of bands rather than trying to complete discographies of a few. There's so many great bands who only released one or two albums anyway. In the end though its got to be up to you but I'm sure you'll have fun either way.Wink

Greg Walker has been organizing ProgFest 2011, and things are firm enough that we can announce them here!

November 11-13
Venue will probably be Dupont Theater in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. (Details yet to come.)
Cost approximately $100-300

Look at the lineup of the bands that have already confirmed:

ALPHATAURUS
LOCANDA DELLE FATE
ARTI E MESTIERI
MAXOPHONE
ATOLL (Tertio lineup)
SHYLOCK
PULSAR
WOBBLER
SBB

And there are three other major bands (one Italian) who really want to play and are firming up some things before committing.

More details will be forthcoming, he wanted to get the word out.

This is an event not to be missed!  Let's support these guys!!

Sad news--the venue backed out, so the festival has been postponed to October 2012.

But on the bright side, several of the bands are very happy, as they were only reuniting specifically for this event and hadn't played together in years.  So this will give them another year to prepare.  A couple other bands who hadn't completely committed are also relieved, as they really wanted to play but had competing obligations.  So hopefully this will in the end make for a better show.

And it will give us a full year to prepare, too!  Be sure to keep this one on your schedule.

Maybe we´ll hear some new material in form of an albumBig smile Fingers crossed here, I´d love to hear what Alphataurus and Arti e Mestieri could come up with. I certainly think that some of the best reunions that recently have made it onto record - come out of Italy.
I didn´t have a snowman´s chance in hell to attend the original show, so maybe - just maybe this will be an excuse to go visit the land of milk and honey for the first time.

i did a post about this a long time ago, maybe over a year ago, and am still wondering about-is it possible that Libra's second, long forgotten gem of an album "Winter Day's NIghtmare", originally released only in the US and Canada (on Motown!), will be put on cd?
I checked the Motown site on the net, but there is no reference to Libra, and no way to inquire to someone directly
Love the album, especially Federico D' Andrea's singing and guitar playing
Crazy that he was run over by a car and killed in 1978, would have loved to have seen the band live back in the day

I remember checking with one of the band members back then Presdoug, and he didn't know anything.  I've been watching for information on it to arise, but have seen nothing yet.

Todd, Andrea, anyone.....have you guys ever heard any news about a reissue on this?

I'm a n00b to this sh*t. I know of Jacula, only because of that song that has a death metal-sounding guitar in it.

whats some good stuff? and I mean stuff that guy into noise and sh*t like the Residents would be into.
