SORRY MEMBERS,

For copyrights matter (I received an email about this) I had to remove
the Franz de Byl und Heiner Hohnhaus - s/t (1970) cover in the current discussion.

Please do not post it directly in the forum.

Thanks

Ermm

Didn't read all of the 9 pages, but I think I haven't noticed CTTE anywhere allthough I find it a pretty poor cover.

I love this thread.

I know there are a lot of Marillion fans here, but this is puke.

Whoever designed this has got to be colorblind... or just.. blind.

This one's just kind of funny.

In the Wake of Poseidon. If you also have this KC album on vinyl, you know what a true eyesore these poorly hand drawn faces are. Music is great though.

I like the covers to Headhunters and Meddle.Cool There are so many vomit-inducing album covers from the 80's and 90's that don't really qualify for a prog thread. Just go to your local thrift/record store and flip through the dollar bin. Some fine establishments will even have a 25 cent bin of rubbish. Wee!

And then there was that awful phase when everyone had to wear a hideous sports coat on their album cover.

Wal-Mart couldn't give these away if they tried, let alone charge $1.56.

Yes, even Zappa caved in to the trend.Cry
There are way too many more. It's really quite phenomenal.

Here's a challenge: find an album cover from the 1980's that ISN'T atrocious! I like the Zappa one, though. I think he was poking fun at the whole thing, personally.

These are all great examples for this thread. I take exception regarding Steve Hackett's Cured. It brings the viewer into an intimate Caribbean setting of relaxing sunshine and tart, tasty pina coladas with a guy who's getting some from a lovely, blonde, Brazilian artist wife who has painted all of his album covers up to this point (and who now wants big money for those paintings as part of a divorce settlement - poor Steve). Look closer though and you'll see a hint of a weary smirk on the guitar virtuoso's face which should have been a sign to prospective buyers that this album's contents were going to be sh*t; a low budget, drum machined waddler by an artist who sings like a little girl (just like Bon Jovi). By the way, Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot ain't exactly Roger Dean.

I agree Franks "Takin the Piss" he has far to much musical integrity to take himself that seriously

the funnies album cover here is the Jimmy Page album,...what the he;ll has he done to his hair...Jimmy always looked pretty cool in the seventies...but that hair style  is so crap...lol

^^ That one has got to be somewhere in the top 10 worst.

Unfortunately, judging by how mild FZ's sports coat really is (and the album cover in general), I don't think he was being sarcastic. His smirk in the picture looks way too casual for this to be a satirical statement IMO. He would have been a bit more obvious and less reserved in the photo if this was a joke. As horrid as it is, this really was the prominent fashion trend for a lot of guys from the mid to late 80s and early 90s. And it wasn't just the rock stars. A sports coat and a pair of jeans really was cool.Sick

In the Wake of Poseidon.
Those two are actually two of my favorite album covers, especially the KC one. The inside is also great, with the marine colours and the silver colous lyrics.
