2011 - Very disapointing so far?

Ive been hearing very good things about the new Symphony X album, how it's different and all

I'm surprised about the disappointment comments about the new Wobbler.  To me, it's one of the better prog albums I have heard in years.  From the preview put out prior to release, I was caught off guard by the different approach from previous Wobbler output but I got over it pretty quickly and absolutely LOVE it.

The samples of the QR album I heard were their worst ever. And I'm a fanboy.

Actually, this year is anything but disappointing. Beardfish disappointed me a little, but as I listened them more and more, it surprised me. Somehow.

Progressive rock has suffered inertia for a very long and try as I may , on sampling recommendations made here and elsewhere, I'm nearly always left thinking retro rock of very little originality (if any at all) to justify that progressive tag. Although there may be a the one or two releases that appeal for other reasons. But too often I hear extensive referencing to styles, riff, etc. heard first in the heyday of progressive rock. But pop music is the same and I have to acknowledge that this is not aimed at me, who was there at the beginnning and heard a lot of it before, but rather to the young new listener for which this seems a brave new musical world. However, thanks goodness for some of the nu-progressive like Everything Everything , who have some fresh ideas. In the meanwhile I'll stick with the jazz rock/jazz fusion world of which I feel a reasonable proportion  of bands are ever progressing .

like there are a lot of prog enthusiasts who are more or just as interested in other genres to find it.  Mew

but they didn't really prog that much else as far as I've heard.  But that one song, Introducing
Palace Players is the proggiest thing I've heard that has a gorgeous melody and gives me
an uplifted feeling.

2011 is a huge disappointment only because the B&B album hasn't surfaced yet.

There is, however, the possibility of a new Anglagard record coming out in the next few months (they're being awfully tight-lipped about it... Maybe they're planning on making it a surprise release in December and sweeping the Top of 2011 polls... I tell ya, all some artists care about is their PA ranking ).

Is there any (good) new fusion on the horizon?

There have been some great albums I have ben listening to 2011- albeit not all prog.  Hey good music is good music.

Generally a year of highly anticipated follow-ups, many of which weren't even remotely interesting. It's a fine year, but only if you try new things or discover something unexpected. To this point, I can say 2010 was more satisfying, although I made up my mind quite late (around winter) on what new music I really enjoy.

2011 prog is borderline nonexistent in my year's provisional top.
