Hi all,
Me and my fiancee are interested in music (especially instrumental) that focuses on a primal sound. We like that ![]() Any recommendations? Examples: First half of Tool - Reflection. Pink Floyd - Set the Heart for the Control of The Sun (umaggumma version, not studio) or the middle section of Saucerful of Secrets Edited by Zitro - June 13 2011 at 19:20 |

I was going to recommend Sepultura's Roots, but I'm not sure about it...
Maybe some stuff from Amon Düül II could fit more to your tastes? I would also suggest Kate Bush's The Dreaming on the album of the same name. Anyway, I can only think of post-punk or metal bands such as Killing Joke or Virgin Prunes, or even experimental bands like Eïnstürzende Neubauten or Test Dept which can sound pretty primal in their own way. |

this. PIL's 'flowers of romance', Killing Joke's "fire dances' and Cure's 'Pornography' are good examples of tribal gothic rock.
You might be interested in pagan folk : cf the band Hagalaz Runedance.
For prog-related albums, PG's III & IV, Mike Oldfield's 'QE2', Brian Eno's 'my life in the bush of ghosts', Joe Zawinul' 'faces and places'
Otherwise listen to music of the pygmies, Doudou N'Diaye Rose and Reebop.

The tribal feel was what made Osage Tribe's Arrow Head very appealing to me despite the rather low rating here. However, this one has vocals. Worth checking nonetheless.

A large part of Mike Oldfield's 'Ommadawn Part One' sounds primal/tribal to me - though it contains some 'singing' its more of a chanting.
Give it a listen below: http://www.progarchives.com/mp3.asp?id=4278 |

Cromagnon - Orgasm. A weird and relentless hippie experiment that went bunkers in the studio. Tribal in a woolen shirt kind of way and one of the funniest record I´ve got.
Also I find some of the recent Ulver albums to sound tribal, but not in the usual sense of the word. More of an aural and ethereal thang to it - even if that sounds slightly wrong.

Dzyan - Electric Silence is excellent, might strike the right chord in this regard. Not on PA is
Trial of the Bow - Rite of Passage
It's hard to find but I think it's probably exactly what you're looking for.

I just mentioned Dzyan...
I did an internet search and Trial of the Bow can be found still if you google. I honestly believe that album I mentioned as one of the best world fusion albums I've ever heard.
I think their myspace is still up as well.
