Sorry for the late response.
Alex, you did one heck of a job here! It's really an honor to share the same first name with you.
I would also like to thank you (and SaltyJon) for featuring my quote. I actully had to go back to my review and re-read it in order to believe that I really wrote those words!

Oh hey, this is embarrassing, I didn't even notice this thread until just now. With all the time I am here I was expecting when I read the thread to find a post that I had made at 4am some day and completely forgotten about.
I did not realize people had moved on from Watershed, it's only 43 on the 2008 list. That's not as much of a backlash as bumping Dowsing Anemone down to 94 for 2006, but still. The forum people are much more avant than the general casual reviewing population, so I can explain Dowsing, E-Re, and Clivages, but I can't explain Watershed. Maybe E-Re was able to stay in the top 5 of 2009 because Max never got around to putting up the collabs' choice banner so people didn't feel the need to review it in retaliation. ;-)

Ok heres the top 10
the actual genres are not very diverse. I thought there were more worthy contenders to be honest.
What about Persephone's Dream's "Pan"? and even the latest Star One album...
Can't argue with Haken though. Wonderful album.

I'm looking on the "wayback machine" and in December 2006 Dowsing Anemone was on #68 in the 2006 chart so I don't think there was much of a backlash against them . I guess that will remain the Collab's choice the farthest away from the general tastes... Magma and UZ's albums were both in the top 10 when they won their lists.

The forums are populated with avant hipsters. I'm actually quite surprised that Haken is even in the top 10.

Alex, but we all can agree that this particular KD album is among the worst albums Toby ever put out.

^ Honestly I haven't heard it yet. There is a den of the avant-hipsters which we call the Shred, but the majority here is largely into classic prog, retro-symph, classic prog-metal, etc. Which explains the more and more wide gap between the Collabs' Lists and the general chart.

Tu ar trebui să ardă în iad pentru acest.
Also, yeah, but > 9000% of the collabs drop by the shred. And having ~20 people on the avant teams doens't help at all with the charts being completelly distorted from the general view.

There were only 8 votes from current or former ZART members, so that doesn't explain the predominance of avant-prog albums in the list as much as the really bad year other genres had does. (EDIT: and for comparison, there were 13 votes from former and current members of the PMT ) Even if what you said was 100% accurate, I still wouldn't see this as distortion, but as the intended diversity provided in relation with the general charts.

I didn't vote because I only picked up a couple of prog albums last year. Mind you, having just heard Xing Sa's latest offering, I'm not sure I've really missed much.

Caio dude, hipsters don't listen to avant music; they're too scared off it. A Shredder is an entirely different entity

I remembered it being not very popular, but I had forgotten that it was all the down at 68 even in '06. Clivages and E-Re are much more accessible and friendly albums than Dowsing so it makes sense, but I guess that means my point is rather wrong. Oh well.

Besides what Alex pointed out, all the people who are not avant-garde partisans are still generally much more receptive to more experimental music than the random PA browser.

Hipsters have limited appreciation of avant-garde music. Pitchfork gave the This Heat reissue a 9 in 2002, and before you say "Well, that was back when they still reviewed Merzbow and John Zorn albums", well, that's true, but they also gave Zs' very brutal 2010 album a 7. It just has to be underground and still have some rock. I mean, isn't Can the most hipster band of the '70s? :P

Well, I'm new to the forums, but I'd put 'The Great Escape' - Seventh Wonder as my top album of 2010.
I'd go out on a limb and say it's every bit as good as:
Images And Words - Dream Theater
Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche
Boston - Boston
Kansas - Leftoverture
etc etc.

Awesome list. Out of the top 10 that I've heard so far, Jaga Jazzist's One-Armed Bandit and Xing Sa's Creation de l'Universe are most definitely worthy. I need to check out the others, especially Coyote.
