I've come to accept that folks either hate mine a lot or like mine a lot. I usually don't go for including a lot of facts and background behind the album. I don't typically talk about the band members, their internal dramas, who is playing what or how it did in sales figures. I do curse and spit and swear and scream and rage and condemn and praise and such. I don't like soft language, so I don't tend to use it. Sometimes I'm obtuse and verbose, sometimes I'm full of dick jokes and four-letter words. I don't like writing too much in one review, so I never talk about every song, but I also don't like taking brevity to such a level that it's just a few sentences about how much I like the album.

My basic structure: I. Intro Introduce the album, give short background, briefly talk of pros/cons ("overture" of the review) II. Body Talk about music aspects, such as melody, complexity, lyrics, instrumentation, and other things, and usually general thoughts on album III. Conclusion Sum this stuff and shove anything I missed in the body in there That's my new structure. My old structure was: I. Intro (Same as above) II. Body Dissect the living daylights out of every track on the album. Usually ends up being ~700-1000 words III. Conclusion (Same as above) My old reviews were wicked long, my new ones are anywhere form 300-700 words.

Finals, not so much, depending on the topic, I guess. Here, not much besides reading advice about dealing with anger that I already knew or that are pure bullsh*t (seriously, these dudes are saying "snap a rubber band" wth?) |
