'In Camera', 'The Silent Corner' and 'Chameleon In The Shadow Of The Night' are all great albums. Try any one of those and you won't be disappointed. My favourite Hammill album changes every week. There are so many superb albums to choose from. 'In Camera' is a good introduction to his music I think.

I really love Hammill's Solo releases and it's hard to pick "THE BEST ONE" but I can list two albums I would recommend starting with:

- The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage
- In Camera

Two awesome albums and also the two you already considered...

Anoher one I would put to my favorites is "The Black Box" but I don't think it's something to start with (even though I did  )

My personal favorite is "The Fall of the House of Usher" in its 2nd manifestation (without percussion instruments), but perhaps not the best introduction to the strange and wonderful cosmos of Peter Hammill. (The man likes to re-publish some of his works in a different form, if he is no longer satisfied with them; lately he re-published "The Noise" again in a version that he thinks is definitely "noisy". I haven't heard that version yet, but since the original version was quite loud already there's something I'm really looking forward to).

There is no Peter Hammill album named "Amnesiac", at least not an official one. For information about Peter Hammill go here: http://www.sofasound.com

I recommend:

The Future now, pH 7 and A Black Box

One of my favourites too. PH & Chris Judge Smith have actually out-Poed Edgar Allan himself on that one! They have added more angst and depth to the original story. Not for people who crave happy endings though.

The greatest idea was to give the house a voice (or rather voices) itself.

every peter hammill album is great except noise. in my opinion his top five albums are: 1)silent corner and the empty stage, 2) black box, 3)chameleon in the shadow of the now, 4)in camera and 5)over. the best to start with is chameleon in the shadow of the night.

Obviously Peter Hammill shared your opinion, which is why he remixed "The Noise". He says it is "really noisy" now.

They will, in Athens, together with Porcupine Tree.
