Move me to the non prog music lounge if you have to, but I regard her as progressive.

Kate Bush produced some of the most thoughtful and imaginative music in the late 70's and the 80's. Her debut album 'The Kick inside' produced by Dave Gilmour when she was just 18, is a masterpiece IMO. For any who have not heard her music, or believe she was just a quirky popster, I urge you to check out her 'Hounds of Love' album especially the 'Ninth Wave' suite, then come back to the forum and argue it is not progressive, or more importantly that it is not brilliant

What's your take on Kate Bush??

There are those here who shouldn't be and there are those who aren't here who should.

It works the same with any broad category.


Kate Bush is borderline, but ultimately I'd probably put her here above say Styx, but I'd also remove all Fusion from the site meself, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask.

Perhaps we should diffrentiate between prog rock and progressive music generally. I believe that fusion is progressive. The likes of Brand X certainly deserve to be here IMO, by the same token so does Kate Bush and dare I say it...

     To see her here would be cool. I've always seen here like a female Peter Gabriel (a good friend of miss B., as seen in a memorable clip, if i remember).

    "Hounds of Love" is great, but i prefer "Never Forever" (lovable cover) and "The Dreaming". "Army Dreamers gives me the chills.

I would technically put X in with Fusion. Fusion is Jazz, not prog rock. It's just the way it is. Anyone who listens to heavy amounts of Jazz laughs at this site when they see we include Return to Forever. I kid you not. Corea would too. Corea is prog? Mahavishnu? Please.


But enough about fusion, this is about Bush.

I think of some groups/artists as Progressive Pop.

Kate Bush, Tears for Fears, The Korgis, Propaganda, Buggles

kate bush definitely should be here. the same goes for the fixx, jean luc ponty  and eddie jobson

She's progressive BUT not rock.I agree with your sentiments though ,Hounds Of Love is one of my favourite albums,not just for the Ninth Wave but also for the side one tracks as well.

BTW Andrew Powell produced (and arranged her first album).Dave Gilmour paid for the studio time.It's also been said that the The Man With The Child In His Eyes is Dave Gilmour.

I love Kate Bush. Said before that she belongs here.

I love  all her first 5 albums but I prefer "The dreaming". The deepest and more experimental work of hers. Night of the swallow and All the love are beautiful.
