As I posted Alice and Bauhaus then I would say 'Poison' is, absolutely pop.  Just cos it has guitars and long hair doesn't make it anythin other than pop in my book.  Bauhaus I posted  as I said because it reminded me of another thread so guilty as charged.  But eve Bauhaus get poppy sometimes (Ziggy, Kick in the Eye).

The Police are Pop pure and simple for the majority of their career.    Of course I have a different book to you mind.

Yah, I see what you mean. In my mind, almost anything that follows the hit making formula: verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus and out is pop. How about "bubblegum"?

The Go-Gos! This has got to be pop! I like this band.

Paula Abdul on the other hand is too squeeky clean and cute for me but
maybe you'll disagree.

If Michael Jackson is pop, then there's really not much difference between pop and rock anyway.  That distinction was relevant in the 50s and 60s but with more rock influences getting into pop via ABBA and later on MJ, it is not, anymore, at least so long as it's not from the artsy side or the out and out hard rocking side of rock.

OK so they wint on a bit too long for a standard pop tune.

This got some airplay:

And this:

What's funny about that one is that I knew the song title but not the band/artist name.
