Was surprised to see Derek Roddy among those who auditioned.
Capable of laying lots of styles but when I hear that name I think "extreme metal"
I think that'd be cool though, seems kinda odd for DT so that may be a good thing.

Thomas Lang would also be pretty cool. I'd like that.

It's a good publicity stunt to promote the new album and the next chapter of DT history. I think all drummers were all pretty adequate to fill the job, but maybe personnality has made the difference for choosing the guy.

Come to think of it I hope the use of A Nightmare To Remember in the auditions doesn't mean they intend to play it live. That song should be left to rot in DT history

I agree. The lyrics are probably the worst of their entire discography, and the growling sure doesn't help either.

Sorry for you, their is a good chance that they play this song on the next tour. I like the atmosphere of this song. The lyrics? I didn't pay much attention...Shocked

Considering Roddy's quotes on his forum recently, very glad he didn't get it.

I would say that "Count of Tuscany" is the worst lyrics they've written, at least in Nightmare they're not afraid to die because of some crazy Count Violin

I think Roddy is secretly moshkito (or vice-versa)

The whole thing with all us guys audition footage is....you're seeing 5 minutes (of what some editor thinks.... is creating "drama" for reality TV)
If you notice.....all of the drummers with the exception of Mike was presented as if they had a "flaw" in their playing.....and that certainly wasn't the case.
What you didn't see are the 2 hours and 55 minutes of kick ass jams, tunes played exact, etc......each drummer had.

Another thing that needs to be considered in my case is.....
I auditioned for DT because I was asked.......not because I wanted to be the new DT drummer.
Too much commitment for me to stop what I have going on in my life.

I have a snake collection (over 100 animals) that has generated more income than DT would be able to pay me. For me to stop that.......would take a lot.

This drum thing is fun and all but, it doesn't make up even half of my yearly income.
For me to consider that gig....meant I had to move out of a really big passion (and security) to do something......I've done already (touring) and am doing still through education and my own projects.

One of the questioned asked by RR was "how would getting this gig change your life"

My answer was....."I'm not looking to change my life."
That was a big shock to everyone listening!

I like to pretend that Dave Grohl or Meg White is the new Dream Theater drummer. Just think how exciting and weird that would be.

Dave is well loved and respected within the drum community. If I wasn't a drummer and I had the choice, I'd pick Dave without a seconds hesitation over any of these guys. Obviously he's not as technical of a player as Mangini, Lang, Donati, or Minnemann, but that's not what's most important. Of course he wouldn't fit in DT as well; however, it's disrespectful to mention him alongside that Meg White girl.

Most people would call it "selling out" probably, but it would be interesting to say the least.  I love the White Stripes.

I love that song... is one of my most playing lately... as a latin american, I missed that part of "bad lyrics" stuff, guess the lyrics about demons, vampires and monsters are a lot worse than a car accident. Great prog metal song actually, love it. Headbanger
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.
