Rush.

The only stuff by The Beatles I like is their more psychedelic music. Because it was interesting, their early stuff is just plain ol pop rock. Does nothing for me.

I am a musician, and I can consistently spell the word the same every time I type it. I prefer The Beatles. Perhaps you should not make claims such as "everyone who REALLY know the music"  will choose this band or choose that band. Invariably, you will be wrong. Like right now, for instance.

i said .. MAY choose the beatles if u are not musician .. and if you are Mr. everybody...
ok then if you are musician .. tell me what you play. did u ever play some beatles and some rush ?
if you are musician .. you are CERTAINLY NOT a drummer haha xD
so u may be a guitarist.
on guitar .. for the cords .. its almost equal , but for the guitar solos +10 to Lifeson (Rush Guitarist).
Bassman .. +10 for Geddy lee .. playing in same time Keyboards, bass pedal and singing in the same time.
Drummer +999999999999 to neil peart .. NOBODY cant say the inverse.
The beats are way harder to do than the beatles. 4/4 3/4 7/8 etc
and you know .. my father is a guitarist .. and made big tribute to the beatles here .. even georges harrison phoned him to congratulate him .. hes a BIG BIG beatles fan ...
he would vote for sure for the beatles ....
hes 60 years old .. but he cant play lifeson's solos hehe .. just chords thats all...
beatles guitarist was just kinda rythms .. solos was not very evolved
for their years .. it was really good. yeah for their years only..
also .. how old are u ? 60 ? hehe
these 2 facts (age and non muscian) have a lot to do in that.

i am musician .. im a solo guitar player , i play drum too synthétysers bass etc
i bet you are just guitarist rythm hehe or classic or a lil jazz.
but try to play some rush drum :) and we will re-talk of that after ok ? :)

Your posts hurt my eyes.

The question was, which band do you prefer? My answer was that I prefer The Beatles. The question was not, who has the better drummer? Or who has a faster guitarist? If all you base your musical appreciation on is that type of citeria, then you have no grasp of musical composition. Just like you have no grasp of syntax and sentence structure.

I never cared for Rush. Geddy Lee's singing can only be taken in very small doses before he becomes downright obnoxious.

As far as age, I don't think The Beatles have an age limit on who enjoys their music. In fact, when The Beatles released their remastered series, they held 14 of the top 20 spots on Billboard Top 100 -- forty years after they made their last album. I don't believe they were all purchased by 60 year-olds. Forty years after Rush retires from playing I don't think anyone will be having the same conversation. But they will still be talking about The Beatles.

Seriously. Tell me that you're all kidding.
A serious study of music history required here; and if you think that playing the most complicated time signatures or squeezing in the maximum amount of notes is what counts, then you are both way off beam - I'm not kidding.

I'm surprised to see that the Beatles have more votes here, considering the fact that none of their albums appear in the Top 100 listings, yet four of Rush's best albums do.

It's fine to enjoy Rush, they're part of this new world, for better or worse, the Beatles are from the past. But any cursory glance at history should tell you why Rush are totally insignificant in comparison.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OH JESUS. OH JESUS OH MY BUDDHA!

Ahem. so we've come to this? Comparing one of my favorite bands to one of my most hated?

Obviously I'd have to pick Rush. George Harrison could never play such fast mid-tempo solos. And the vocal harmonies? Those four white pricks don't have half the vocal capacity in even the worst Geddy tunes. Drumming's a no-brainer! we all know Ringo was the most talented member, and even he can't hold a candle to the might of Rush!

I mean, the proof is in the pudding. A great Rush song, man! It'll be like this twenty minute super awesome song that doesn't change at all! It'll be generic (super duper complicated and technical and difficult and hard to play and super complex...did I say complex? Oh, it'll have complex and intricate time signatures out the wazoo!) and it will never change. It'll be the same few notes (fine tuned to rawking!) for hours and hours. Complex! It'll have solos! PERT! PERT! PERT! It'll be like the same song for eight days. The same generic...hyper complex and super hard to play song that sounds like mushy hard rock, melodically generic mushmush PERT COMPLEX! Geddy is the god of vocals. He's so good!

And then Happiness is a Warm Gun is this silly piece of sh*t song that only has THREE parts in less than three minutes. I bet Rush could d a billion parts in two minutes (they'd all be same) So cool! Rush beats Beatle ass, sirs. Happiness is a Warm Gun don't got no good harmonies or melodies or musical moments, and Rush is so totally memorable like that fifteenth solo in Cygus part 33 that's ninety minutes long with TIME SIGNATURES THAT ARENT 4/4! They rule like Sunday morning! I love their hair. I mean, Rush is so emotionally resonant and Geddy sings about issues that are real to some people! He thinks he's going bald! that's resonant and emotionally stirring sh*t! it makes me cry yes it does! And it's so memorable! The solo is like wha wah...I forgot. And that crappy Happiness is a War Gun just isn't memorable. Not the stupid 'dark' beginning where it's menacing and the guitar solo segment when they sing 'I need a fix 'cause I'm going down', and then it's 'mother superior jumped the gun', and then it's the ugliness of the main song where the two harmonies meld with the pathetic melody. That sh*t is SO easy to write! I could write fifty beatles songs in an hour and Rush could, too! But Rush, man? Who could write an hour of the same ten notes repeated until a solo comes along or a drum segment sh*ts itself all over any sense of melody they might have had? Rush is GOD!

Disclaimer: We can get through this with a little help from our friends.

Disclaimer: All of that which follows is subjective...
Because Beatles had better lyrics, more musically diverse and engaging arrangements, their melodies are more imminently memorable, the band had FOUR fine singers compared to Rush's one sh*tty singer. Rush spends so much time trying to be nerdy and complex and 'hard to play' that they f**king forgot how to touch a man's heart with feelings that aren't 'let's misquote Ayn Rand' or some asinine rejection of fame's vices and pratfalls.

Yeah, Rush could play faster and more complex music, but why does it matter if they never write songs that make you cry or feel such powerful emotions that you have harder time breathing?

You know, there's more to music than...let's let George Carlin finish for me:

It's not enough to know which notes to play, you have to now why they need to be played.

Wait...I meant to say RUSH RULES 4EVER!

It's interesting that you seem to know how everyone in the world feels. Perhaps that ability could be used for something more useful than discussing music. I bet you could make a mint for some polling companies.

Why on Zanzibar are you taking me seriously? Obviously I understand the subjectivity of any of these premises. It's not like I...uhhhh...consider what I'm saying to be universal fact? Is it so wrong just to want to hate things sometimes?

No, I'm not taking you seriously, that would be impossible. But you're at least correct when you say you have the right to like what you like, hate what you hate, and to live on Planet Rush if that's what you want to do.

Excuse me but you brought up the historical reference comment........so based on your reply I will chalk up your original comment to just uneducated forum bantering. Which in general does not work on this site, you should go post those comments on a Beatles pop site where possibly your unsubstantiated comment will get you many clappy emoticons.

Have a great day!
