QUANTUM FANTAY Lands at ProgDay 2011!

One of the world's foremost space rock bands arrives at Storybook Farm to carry us far away...

Belgium's QUANTUM FANTAY was founded in 2002 when PETE MUSH (keyboards) and JARO (bass) decided to form a band that would "change the city of Lokeren forever!" It became much more. With the addition of GINO BARTOLINI (drums) and DARIO FRODO (guitar), and five albums later, QUANTUM FANTAY has evolved to be an important contributor to the progressive rock / space rock / psychedelic  scenes.  Though QF has closed the first night of the Burg Herzberg Festival in Germany in front of over 7000 people, audiences in the US will best remember the band from it's wonderful appearance at NEARfest in 2009. New music has been released since, and the band is very excited to be returning to perform material that's never yet been heard in the US, as well as old favorites.

Join us for the ride...

ProgDay is the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay 2011 will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

Thanks!

ProgDay Welcomes FIBONACCI SEQUENCE!

Every now and then a band emerges on the progressive rock scene that seems to come out of nowhere to make an impression. FIBONACCI SEQUENCE is such a band. Though a two-song EP released in 2009 hinted at what was to come, it was the full-length debut Numerology that took everyone by surprise. It garnered glowing critical response and ultimately ended up on many best-of-2010 lists.

"Numerology is a fine piece of art, destined to become an instant classic..."
- Dimitris Starakis, MAGIC STARLIGHT 'ZINE

"I would recommend Numerology to fans of heavier progressive fusion bands like Planet X, Liquid Tension Experiment and so many others. Once you hear the music, you’ll agree that the band Fibonacci Sequence should be said in the same sentences as the aforementioned bands. This is one of my favorite instrumental albums of 2010 and gets a very strong recommendation from me."
- Ron Fuchs, PROGNAUT

"Numerology is a whole lot of experience: it is melodic, sad, cheerful, loud, classic, but most of all Fibonacci Sequence have made a brilliant album with Numerology. Every time I listen I get surprised and find something new. Wonderful stuff...9 out of 10"
- Gert Hulshof, DUTCH PROGRESSIVE ROCK PAGES

"It's hard to think of a more impressive indie prog entry in 2010."
- John Collinge, PROGRESSION MAGAZINE

With a symphonic core wrapped in a metal framework and delivered with energetic passion, ProgDay is happy to present FIBONACCI SEQUENCE for its first festival appearance.

FIBONACCI SEQUENCE joins QUANTUM FANTAY at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

ProgDay 2011 Announces Germany's PANZERBALLETT!

After studying jazz guitar in Los Angeles, Graz, Helsinki and Munich, German guitarist JAN ZEHRFELD set out to create a band that combined elements of jazz and metal. The result was PANZERBALLETT, a tight-knit and chops-laden outfit that ultimately mixed electric jazz, death metal, funk, math rock and a lot of other things in-between. That's not surprising when you consider that Jan's list of musical influences includes MESHUGGAH, MATS/MORGAN, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SCREAMING HEADLESS TORSOS and ALLAN HOLDSWORTH.

In the traditional style of jazzers interpreting well-known compositions, PANZERBALLETT makes a habit of re-working familiar music, yet in a way that re-envisions it as anything but traditional. Whether rendering original compositions or taking ownership of old favorites, the performance energy is always high, the arrangements are unexpected and eclectic, the playing is ferocious and often tongue is placed firmly in cheek.

Described as JOHN ZORN meets Meshuggah, or as the German newspaper Die Welt has said, "faster than Metallica, more powerful than Motörhead, and funnier than Rammstein," PANZERBALLETT is pushing fusion in a different direction. ProgDay is thrilled to welcome them on their first journey to the US.

PANZERBALLETT (Germany) joins QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

Thanks!

Uˇ JSME DOMA: The Sounds of Freedom at ProgDay 2011!

"Uˇ JSME DOMA (pronounced "Oozh Smeh Dough-Ma") seemed to appear out of nowhere in the early 1990s, but it was a little more complicated than that.  When the group came together in the small border town of Teplice in Czechoslovakia in 1985, rock was freedom and freedom was illegal.  Via Western radio and smuggled tapes, however, the band came into contact with punk rock as well as more avant-garde bands.  It wasn't until the fall of the Communist government that they were able to record and tour.  The group has won a strong following with their great releases and their constant, high energy tours.  25 years after their founding, their music combines the energy of punk rock - their original inspiration - while ignoring genre walls and adding more complex structures taken from avant-garde and avant-progressive bands and even from folk music of their native land.  They are living, fire-breathing, alternative rock legends.  They are a singular, powerful group whose shows win them instant fans for life and whose musical voice is the voice of joy and freedom."
- Steve Feigenbaum, Cuneiform Records

Along with PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE, Uˇ JSME DOMA are considered to be the pre-eminent ambassadors of Central European rock.  ProgDay is very honored to bring the legendary band to Storybook Farm. (http://www.progday.net/Bands-UzJsmeDoma.html)

Uˇ JSME DOMA joins PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

What a bizarre yet intriguing lineup. I haven't heard of any of these bands but this sounds like an awesome festival nonetheless.

The Rebel Wheel Rolls Into ProgDay with Special Guest Guy LeBlanc!

From Ottawa, Canada, THE REBEL WHEEL  began in the early 1990s out of a shifting cooperative of musicians working in a myriad of styles producing both improvised and arranged music.  Early work tended towards neo-prog, but over the years the band pursued a more aggressive and edgy direction that eventually evolved into the sound they have today.  Steeped in dark, cinematic soundscapes and complex turn-on-a-dime arrangements, sometimes dissonant, sometimes mellow, always eclectic, their musical landscape has been compared to WETTON-era KING CRIMSON, ZAPPA, RUSH, PINK FLOYD, and at times even YES and GENESIS.  But in the end their personality is all their own.

Recently working and gigging as a three-piece while ANGIE MACIVOR is on hiatus with the birth of her first child, THE REBEL WHEEL have expanded their lineup for ProgDay to include guest keyboardist-extraordinare GUY LeBLANC, acclaimed for his work with NATHAN MAHL and CAMEL.  We're sure this special show will be a treat for fans of both THE REBEL WHEEL and Guy LeBlanc.

THE REBEL WHEEL joins Uˇ JSME DOMA (Czech Republic), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

MÖRGLBL Tears It Up At ProgDay 2011!

Consisting of guitar master CHRISTOPHE GODIN, bassist IVAN ROUGNY and drummer JEAN-PIERRE FRELÉZEAU, THE MÖRGLBL TRIO released their first album in 1998. "The Mörglbl Trio !!" offered a guitar-driven instrumental combination of jazz and metal served up with dollops of humor that was well received by critics and fans.

The heavier "Bienvenue į Mörglbl Land" was released in 1999 to even greater acclaim. The momentum of other projects led to the end of THE MÖRGLBL TRIO in 2000, but everyone stayed in touch.

In 2005, while working together on "Christophe Godin's Metal Kartoon," the members found renewed interest in their old band. They reformed as MÖRGLBL and released their third album, "Grötesk," in 2007.

French music scene veteran AURÉLIEN OUZOULIAS took over the drum chair in late 2007, and the band went on to deliver a striking set at NEARfest in 2008. Since then they have released "Jäzz For The Deaf," and have become renowned for their take on high-energy, prog/metal/fusion. As anyone at NEARfest X that Sunday morning can tell you, MÖRGLBL at ProgDay will be a performance you won't want to miss!

MÖRGLBL (France) joins THE REBEL WHEEL (Canada), Uˇ JSME DOMA (Czech Republic), PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.
