I like both bands, but Genesis fell of the wagon after Hackett left, and I personally don't like their Collins era stuff. Crimson, on the other hand, has always been on top form, and continued that way until the last album, so Crimson gets my vote.

1968-1971-crimson slight edge
1972-1974-genesis slight edge
1975-1979-genesis
1980-1983 crimson slight edge
Genesis must win because Crimson didn't exist for half the great decade of the 70s. That's a good reason why Crimson could never be among my top 5 prog bands of the 70s

Please stop with all those polls with Genesis...I still have to find a prog band that I like less...

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

My favorite Genesis album so far (SEBTP) is only at a level of enjoyment equivalent to that of my least favorite KC album (ITCOTCK). King Crimson for me.

Are you f*cking joking? GENESIS ARE TERRIBLE!!!
Well not terrible...but extremely average.
They dont hold a candle to KC.
Worst poll ever.

HA!
The second half of the 70's were lame. Guitarists became incapable of riffs. Bassists minimalised their input in the lead up to the dreaded 80s. And drummers became scared of the ride cymbal (not that Phil Collins wasn't always)
With this, we can safely ascertain that, other than very few exceptions, 75-79 were a sh*t time for prog and the downfall of culture and music. Thank christ for the 90s.
