me personly I really liked Prisoner of Azkaban, and Order of the Phoenix, both are very dark, and threatning, and full of suprises, I really liked how tense the Chamber of Secrets also were, how can you beat a carachter like a Basilisk, few, can not even Dragons which were featured in book 4,

It's really close between the top 4 on the list though.

I found the first half of the last book frustrating and boring. I don't know if I just liked the 5th and 6th less, or if my tastes had just changed since I read the first four 6 years earlier. But when I read it the first time, Goblet of Fire was killer, so my vote goes there.

The Prisoner of Azkaban, because it introduces a glimpse of a conflict between four friends and is therefore not so stereotyped in the characters than the other books.

I woted for Order of the Phoenix, the best villan since Hannibal Lecter in Dolores Umbridge, the most epic battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore, the most sad death of Sirius Black, Luna Lovegood (nough siad), the secret club for Harry, hes first kiss, the epic fight in the last chapters, many cool spells,  Harry dose his first forbidden spell in Crucio when he fights Bellatrix

Haven't read it in over 10 years but I remember really loving the Goblet of Fire. This poll might inspire me to re-read it!

I love the way her books grow up with the reader, from the first, a very well written childrens' book (with enough intrigue to satisfy adults, too), to a full blown fantasy/thriller/horror (delete as needed).

For me, the most rounded would be 'Goblet Of Fire', but 'Deathly Hallows' is a superb climax to the series.

I haven't read any since probably the year Deathly Hallows came out. But i definitely enjoyed reading Goblet Of Fire the most.

Read them all but love Azkaban. I loved the dark tone of it and to me that is when they stopped being kids books.

Goblet of Fire was my favorite. The true introduction of Voldemort was bone-chilling. The contest fun, just a very satisfying ride.
 
I read the first book the night before seeing the first movie in the theater, and then never read another one. Until my youngest daughter was about to finished and I was the only person who didn't know the story. So just this February I started the series over and finished on vacation in March.
 
The very end of 1 always seemed a little hand-wavy to me. They continue to get better until 5 which had some great stuff but was just too dark and too long for me. 6 was great. 7 was satisfying but also bogged down a bit. So...

I hadn't watched that since it was in theaters, but it makes me wish Richard Harris had lived to film that scene. Voldemort is supposed to be just a little afraid of Dumbledore, and here we don't get that at all. Yes he's a badass but Dumbledore looks worried the entire time.
 
I've been disappointed by alot of these epic battle scenes. Yoda vs the Emperor, Gandalf facing the Witch King, etc. The only one that came close to feeling right was the first time we see Yoda fight in Episode II, with his foe escaping barely by chance.

I like Order of the Phoenix for the whole oppression-rebellion thing, but it's hard to pick a definite favorite.
