You're crazy dawg. I'm not really sure if there's a better metal band.

Uh, when the starting bet is a Periphery you need to call at least a Between the Buried and Me to stay in the game.

I see your Periphery and raise you a Protest the Hero.

Pretty much, yes. It wasn't even a real flute.

Just because Jackson wasn't playing it?

That was a pretty good song too, although it's subject matter kinda bored me.

Pretty much. On first listen I enjoyed it the most. The second listen too but some of the other tracks sounded better as well. I'll need further listens yet.

Oh and apart from the slightly annoying slide guitar, I liked the two instrumentals. The song that seemed to start off like Status Quo improved too. I like Hammill's punky guitar riffs too. One even reminded me a bit of Fred Frith's style.

Where do our thoughts about it differ?
Some songs have rather generic lyrics whilst some are much more Hammillian and will need digesting. I was put off by Rico's negativity on the first listen but on a second listen it sounded much better. The last track's ending is classic VdGG.

I mean, almost everything you said is right on line with my initial listens. Hammill's voice is sounding great and most of the lyrics are good with the exception of the one about math... Can't remember the title...
But overall, it's like solo Hammill that's above and beyond the rest of solo Hammill. |
I like the two songs about mathematics! 5533 is especially good. Not genius lyrics but they fit. I felt some of the others fell down a bit though. Like the opener. And yes, it's kind of like a Hammill solo release with Banton and Evans (which he's done before). And wow, Banton and Evans are glorious.

Oh and one song had a dubstep feel at first.
