Indeed, you shouldn't have PM'd about you going, Rico.
My first thought was that you ratted me out, yeah.
Anyway, in short, people saying A Grounding in Numbers is back to good ol' VdGG boggles me the most. It's completely the other way around. They're not even trying, with their short songs and fluesy composing. At least Trisector was faithful, even in this new formula.
Actually, I haven't said anything. I forgot you were seeing them. I could see them myself in London but I'm not really that fussed.
I presume they did some old numbers?
I still say they're not as good without Jaxon.
and yes, I noticed on the album that no tracks are over 10 minutes. I'll find out later how lazy they are.

There was no aspect of Battles that I liked less than others.
Tyondai's voice was really the only thing I didn't like about them.
As far as a departure from songwriting goes, the one thing this new album doesn't seem like it will have is sort of the goofy, (as Rob put it) Willy Wonka-ish vibe that Mirrored was full of. I will miss some of that but I'm not terribly disheartened by the change in direction.

James, I used to be excited about the new Battles too, until I heard the single. The lack of Tyondai shows quite strong.
I actually am still pretty excited for the new Battles. Tyondai's childish vocals were definitely my least favorite aspect of the band, I would actually consider this an improvement.
