Arena statement: 
"We will now be parting ways with bassist Ian Salmon. Many thanks for the last ten years Ian, and good luck for the future.
Returning to the band - We are happy to welcome back Mr. John Jowitt on Bass. Enjoy!"
So Arena is: Paul Manzi, Clive Nolan, Mick Pointer, John Mitchell and John Jowitt

A Lot of shuffling about in the Neo-Prog community lately.

John Jowitt returning and a new singer who sounds more similar to Paul Wrightson than Rob Sowden. Could this mean a return to the Visitor era? I'm certainly excited!

understandable as Jowitt is a class act.Will be very much missed from IQ without doubt.

My expectations aren't very high for the next album. I don't know if this raises or lowers them.

Actually I really like Salmon's thunderous tone. I don't think that Contaigon would sound the same, having such a beautifully "bitter" atmosphere, without his bass. I'll miss him, besides his skills he is really cool and modest guy, great to have a conversation with, to me really suiting among Arena musicians. But Jowitt is great as well, no doubt.

I don't really understand the lack of an Arena album in so long. My understanding is that Nolan doesn't write nearly as much if anything for Pendragon as Barrett, and Mitchell is the only other songwriter, unless I'm wrong. What gives?

Also, announcing a new album two years ago and having no news at all about it since is very annoying.

Clive Nolan is a busy busy guy. He has so many projects going on at any given time. More recently he started a theater company and is writing/recording an opera. In addition he does backing vocals on every Dragonforce album, tours with Pendragon (who still tour pretty actively), as well as a ton of unannounced projects and probably a lot of session work we don't even hear about.

Not to mention Mick Pointer was doing his "Return To Script" tour for some time, and John Mitchell has his work with It Bites and other projects and runs a studio.

I agree that the wait has been long but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Yeah, Clive doesn't write for Pendragon at all, but as previously said he's been doing a lot of touring with Pendragon which takes up a lot of time....and of course he's been working on "She" and another new musical coming up "Alchemy"  I think in Arena there are a lot of writers, John Jowitt has mention getting involved in the writing, Mick has a lot to do with the writing and planning, and Johnny Mitchell is a very busy man too!  So Arena is made up of some very busy boys...... I think they've made a solid start though, and have announced the release for November of this year.

Arena are looking pretty good now to me. Paul Manzi is a fine vocalist, John Jowitt one of the best bass players to be found anywhere, & both Clive Nolan and John Mitchell are also superb exponents of their craft. Mick Pointer has had his fair share of criticism over the years, but he's always delivered the goods with Arena's material, and I'm excited about their immediate future.
They are headlining at the Summers End Festival (which takes place at Lydney Town Hall, Lydney, Gloucs, UK, on October 7th, 8th and 9th) and then embark on "The Seventh Degree Of Separation", Tour.
This European tour commences in November after their appearance at the SUMMERS END Festival on October 8th, and will promote their new album of the same name, which will be released on 1st November 2011.

I guess the support for them over there doesn't justify the costs involved. They rarely play in the UK to be fair, Continental Europe is where their music seems to be most appreciated - particularly Poland. Lets hope that a DVD is forthcoming from the Teatr Slaski gig. :-)
