Damn straight it is. Although apparently this year a football is going to look more like this: I almost can't believe they won't be able to find a way to split nine billion damn dollars...

The rest of us (the rest of the world) unfortunately disagree with you Americans.
A football is a sphere. Football is a sport where you kick the ball around with your feet, hence the name.
Football is also the most popular sport on the planet, and unites people and peoples from all over the world in a way that no other sport or any other thing for that matter is able to do.

I was unaware that the rest of the world calls (soccer) football. Thanks for clearing that one up And that's also why football riots are the most extreme. You guys only have one sport. Our insane fans our spread throughout multiple sports. Keeping the madness much less condensed.

Although in my home country Finland ice hockey is the most popular sport (Canada I believe is the only other country where this is the case). And overall we're (not myself though!) much more of a winter sport nation, but I guess the climate does that. Riots and hooliganism are indeed the downside. These people take sport way too seriously

The only handegg riots that break out are at college games, and pent up student rage + excessive alcohol consumption is mainly the culprit there.

You see when we use our hands we change the name. Something americans couldn't seem to cope with.

Yeah but when has rugby been considered a sport? I mean really now.... And in seriousness I have no problem with football at all. I just prefer handegg. Football is actually really fun to play but I can't watch it, no idea why. Guess its not exciting, but playing it can be intense. Its also funny to joke but I know its not a "wimp" sport for sissy Europeans you get messed up playing that game!

Apparently, and I have this from a reliable source, it's called football because that's the shape of an average American's foot.

I think I'd actually watch a game of either if they'd swap balls.

The name soccer originates from a corruption of the expression Association Football
