As long as Howe, Squire, and White are on it I could care less about the rest. I am sure Benoit sounds great (Anderson's voice is raspy these days) and Rick replaced by Oliver will not hurt either.
Great to hear this news!

G. Downes is mostly on keys on the album not Oliver.

Only insofar as it'll be a Yes album with 5 songs on it. The considerable involvement of Horn and Downes coupled with the fact that the epic title track will be a reworking of a Drama-era demo suggests that it could be more reminiscent of Drama than anything else, though if they pull off anything even half as good as that album I'd be amazed, quite frankly. |

One of them is big (think Awaken)...... the others around 6 minutes! And with Howe at the writing helm, I'm thinking it's going to be a little more in the progressive style of Yes than Drama was. Add to this the blood of a Wakeman..... and I think we have another GFTO. Obviously there are strong connections to Drama though. |

Call me a sceptic if you like, but I've yet to see sufficient peer-reviewed evidence to persuade me that progginess is passed on genetically. Besides, Downes is providing most of the keys on this album, not Wakeman jr. Of course, Howe was also one of the main songwriters on Drama (which I actually maintain is a pretty proggy album, especially on the opening and closing tracks). I'd actually take Machine Messiah and Tempus Fugit over the majority of GFTO any day. Either way, we've no way of knowing how this album's going to turn out so it's best not to waste too much time and effort speculating. All I'll say is, despite a few glimmers of hope here and there, Yes haven't really produced any decent new material for decades, and the fact that they're falling back on an old Drama-era demo as their title track for this new album doesn't exactly fill me with hope. |

Of course progginess is passed on genetically! Look at Dweezil...... Ahhh you're right though..... why choose an out-take from the 80's if you're supposed to be being creative? I bet there'll be a lot more hard rocking stuff now that Anderson has been "removed".... which could be either 'good' or 'really cheesy and bad'.......... |

I'll buy it either way, it looks like it's gonna be a real controversial release but I imagine there will be some good songs. Title track is pretty much guaranteed to be njoyable, albeit not innovative.

So has any of the tracklist been confirmed yet?
I really want to find out if "Aliens Are Only Us From The Future" is going to be featured on this album. Also what's this about Geoffrey Buggle replacing Wakeman on keys? |

I just found this online: Squire also confirmed [...] Trevor
Horn produced the album. The players, Squire continued, would be the
same one attendees will see on stage when the band performs Friday
[...]: Guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Oliver Wakeman, lead singer Benoit David and Squire. Except for one change. At Horn’s insistence, “Fly from Here” will feature [...] Geoffrey Downes on keyboards, as opposed to Wakeman, Squire said. ----- What's all this then, eh? |

That sounds good to me - implies that Fly From Here is the only one written in the Drama era (probably why Horn is insisting Downes plays on it). Meaning we are getting new tracks, thank goodness.

Yep, but Trevor Horn was a different vocalist, that made it great, Benoit David is a new version of Jon Anderson. And Oliver Wakeman is not Geoff Downes. Nepotism doesn't work in music. To be honest, after Drama I lost the faith in Yes. Iván

"Drama"....what an appropriate name! More like "Drama Queens"!!
Whatever, I don't know why we care so much....I think Anderson was treated shabbily by his bandmates, but if this generates some decent music, well, it's long overdue from this bunch. So, which bandmember has the duty to write the goofy "Yes" lyrics I wonder?

Did Oliver get the axe? He's not in picture or in press release which says Downes is now in Yes on keys.

Ollie did get axed, see this: http://heavyrocktheplaylist.blogspot.com/2011/03/yes-new-album-fly-from-here-out-in-july.html Maybe the music will be OK (I like Drama, but it is not my favorite Yes album), but we'll have to wait and see. Squire seems to be the engineer of these moves, a bit heartless in my eyes. Ollie was a nice bridge to the distant past of Yes. |

This source you posted earlier says that Trevor Horn insisted on replacing Wakeman with Downes. |

LOL!! I see why they brought in Benoit David....he's the only one likely to score any chicks!! What a rough-lookin' bunch these days!! Squire needs a new 'do, he looks like Barbara Bush or something. And, who's the porker with the sunglasses?? |

I'm just being a good "journalist" and posting them as they appear. I don't know how Trevor would be able to "insist" upon replacing Wakeman with Downes, as I wouldn't think he would rate that kind of influence. Ollie's the better keyboardist by far. I still think this has Squire's fingerprints all over it. He should have called this something else, like the old "Cinema" project. Rent must be due or something.
