New album by ex-Big Big Train vocalist Sean Filkins is released on 11th April 2011 called "War And Peace & Other Short Stories". Recorded at Lee Abraham's Dockside Studio, the debut solo CD from Sean Filkins (ex Big Big Train) has a great production, with drums recorded and engineered by Karl Groom at Thin Ice Studios, where the CD was also mastered. The 6 powerful and melodic tracks include a number of guest musicians including Gary Chandler (Jadis), Dave Meros (Spock's Beard), John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost, and others!), Lee Abraham, and more.
![]() Track Listing:
1. Are You Sitting Comfortably 2. The English Eccentric 3. Prisoner Of Conscience: Part 1 - The Soldier 4. Prisoner Of Conscience: Part 2 - The Ordinary Man 5. Epitaph For A Mariner Parts 1 to 5: Part 1 - Sailor's Hymn Part 2 - Siren's Song Part 3 - Maelstrom Part 4 - Ode To William Pull Part 5 - Epitaph A few unmastered samples are available here: http://www.seanfilkinsmusic.co.uk/audio-snippet
It looks like this will be a superb new neo prog album, and Sean should be considered for inclusion on the Progarchives website as an artist in his own right.
I have ordered the CD - It is available from www.progrock.co.uk for £9.99 + postage.
Will provide more info when I get it. Edited by progrockfreak - March 18 2011 at 08:29 |

It sounds pretty good neo prog to me! There is an interview with Sean also in the later show (it all starts at 26.05 min). As well as his work with Big Big Train, this is the same Sean Filkins that recorded the excellent "Children's Games" as part of one-album band Lorien in 1994. http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=7324
4.45 rated from 12 submissions - not bad at all!!

I'm listening to this; the Sean Filkins tracks start at about 35 minutes into the show. Good stuff; I'll notify the Neo Prog team for the evaluation. ![]() |

His samples we could obtain sound more Crossover-y than Neo, for us Neo Team.
Hey David, any more samples if you have, please PM us via a sharing site. We need to evaluate more. |

^ There are about 50 minutes of music on the two podcasts, practically almost the whole album.

The only tracks that aren't in the Rogues' Gallery shows are the first one (Are you Sitting Comfortably) & the five-part 5th track (Epitaph For A Mariner). Can't imagine they'll sound very much different in style to the ones we've heard so far. If you decide that it's crossover prog rather than neo, then that's fine. Sometimes the distinction between the two is vague - his most recent band, Big Big Train, are classed as crossover prog on the Progarchives site, whereas the one he was with back in 1994 (Lorien) are in the neo group. The main thing is that he is included on the site as himself SOMEWHERE asap - because it's fine music whatever you class it as!!
I'll send in the rest of the tracks when I get the album.

Neo Team have voted "MOVE (to Crossover)" for him.
I do consider he's definitely progressive, so that we'll support him in Neo if he's rejected in Crossover. |

Just wondered if anyone in crossover had managed to have a listen to this yet? There was one other post started on the subject in the Prog Recommendations/Featured albums forum by 'Osmium76' on 6th May, which has had no replies so far: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=78091&KW=sean+filkins&PID=4155857#4155857 but that's as far as it seems to have gone, despite the album being also "mentioned in dispatches" in other forum threads, eg. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=77851&PID=4171472#4171472 and http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=78380&PID=4167049#4167049.
Anyone know anything?

Seems like they were forgotten. I'll take them. I'm listening (again, listened it few weeks ago) his album and it's killer stuff. He has my YES vote. Edited by Marty McFly - June 15 2011 at 16:06 |

I really hope Sean Filkins get an artist inclusion on Progarchives.com in the neo-prog genre. The album is fantastic and will meet all the criteria to satisfy inclusion. Please also note that Sean sung with Lorien which is featured on the website.
