See, if you start throwing albums out there such as Meddle or Tormato, Brain Salad Surgery etc.
I love Genesis. Hype? Well I just wanted to dind out where you fans really stand.

The poll is somewhat unorthodox but not to be completely dismissed. I would suggest Rush. From Caress of Steel to Moving Pictures, especially. That's 6 albums as well. But granted, Genesis is my favorite band ever, currently. So I guess I'll go with the 1st option. |

I think Genesis debut weak, and would say that bands such as Magma, Tangerine Dream, Soft machine, Amon Duul II, Gentle Giant and King Crimson, as well as later ones such as Univers Zero and Art Zoyd with the debut LPs came out of the gates much stronger. Though I don't think that highly of Udu Wudu, though still good, I think all of Magma's earlier albums excellent, and I think Art Zoyd's first run of eight albums excellent, as well as other very strong later ones.
Area had a very strong run for its first five. Gabriel-era Genesis didn't peak until The Lamb in my opinion, and then it was over. Edited by Logan - March 20 2011 at 22:22 |

Yes's string of classics is stronger, even though I do love Genesis.
1) The Yes Album 2) Fragile 3) Close to the Edge 4) Tales From Topographic Oceans 5) Relayer 6) Going for the One |

Let me be clear to all, I'm not suggesting that Genesis is the best ever and walks on water. They've quite pissed me off at times (especially Paper Late). Just asking. As per above, I prefer 3-6 over 1 & 2 on your list. I've never said to myself, I need to hear The Yes Album. But that's just me. Thanks!

"Paperlate" is a marvelous pop song.

I believe nobody can top 7 masterpieces in a row as Genesis
1.- Trespass 2.- NC 3.- Foxtrot 4.- SEBTP 5.- TLLDOB 6.- ATOTT 7.- W&W And I do believe Genesis is the best band ever...But that's my taste. Iván |

Pop, yes. I wasn't looking for pop. Don't you yourself believe that puting out a song like "Evidence of Autumn" would have been the better option? Any other song from 3 sides would've worked except Me & Virgil

I agree. but if you add Atom Heart Mother also Pink Floyd are 6. I would add More, too. Also I DON'T LIKE GENESIS. Sorry but I've never been able to listen to a whole album except for The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway that's the only one that I would rate 5 stars. Question of tastes.

ART ZOYD is a French "Rock in Opposition (RIO)" band on the chamber rock/ music side. It has a Magma infleunce and it's similar to Univers Zero and Present but doesn't get as much attention. An essential and great RIO band, I think, but I wouldn't expect most people here to enjoy the music. |

Atom Heart Mother is my favourite Pink Floyd album, and I also love Ummagumma. Pink Floyd's first six are my favourites: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, and Meddle, but I think the first eleven makes for a very strong run. |

I like Gabriel era Genesis a lot, but ahead of their albums I put
Yes, King Crimson, Zappa, Gentle Giant and last but not least Magma. Also Hatfield And The North, National Health are much better than Genesis. List could continue after morning coffee and cigarette ... Edited by akaBona - March 21 2011 at 02:31 |

I almost agree: only Tales does not fit in a string of classics (imho of course). But Pink Floyd wins it by the thickness of a hair:
1. Ummagumma
2. Atom heart Mother
3. Meddle
4. Obscured by Couds
5. Dark Side of the Moon
6. Wish You Were Here
