^I'm not sure what this obsession with overtaking is, two of the best races I've seen were at Imola 05 and 06, Schumy vs Alonso both times. No overtaking moves in either battle, but the racing was so tense that it it didnt need any.

Of course Sleeper. I've enjoyed watching F1 over nascar for years now.
But its just, more gritty maybe? Eh I have no clue. It just is. I remember those Alonso/Schumi battles. Those were great times. What do you mean by off road Alex? When it used to be on TV I would watch Rally Edited by JJLehto - March 17 2011 at 17:35 |

Well, you've got rallying, cross country and rallycross which are all good, so which do you mean? |

Stuff like Camel Trophy. Wow, I didn't even know this stopped back in 2000, when I watched the last one. Watch these clips, they display quite well what's amazing about off-road adventure: Sometimes it looks like a rally in more difficult conditions than normally. Myself I prefer when the conditions are exceptionally extreme, which makes it more of an adventure than a rally; I love splendid exotic landscapes with exciting, adrenalin inducing situations involving amazing 4x4 cars. You don't compete with the other cars; you're competing with nature and yourself, and part of a cooperative-based expedition. The last trophies were more desert / dry land based, which is why at the time I was prefering Carpat Trophy, taking place in the Romanian Carpathians. Because of the high ground, this was mostly about overcoming very difficult obstacles, there was barely any flat terrain to drive over: ^ beware of bad music in these two videos. |

Wow!
Yeah, when you said offroad I figured you meant stuff like the Dakar Rally, people in big trucks just racing through the desert/wilderness. Crazy sh*t |

Implying that the Paris-Dakar isn't being held @ the South American steppes/forrest instead of in a xbox desert.

No, just Caio. You should know how he is Alex ![]() I looked into the Dakar Rally and assume Caio is referring to the fact the Dakar Rally is no longer held in Africa, but South America. I had to look it up because I don't know a lick about it. Nor do I really want to. While I can see the manly factor in it, not really my thing. |

The fact that NASCAR up to this point used carburetors should tell you everything.
Plus the owners are even more dickish than the FIA. We all know real racing is rally.

Dickish, dictatorial...what's the difference?
Eh more low brow maybe...all I'll say is what I've always said. F1 maybe fancier, more renowned, more "high class" but while their tracks are different, they still drive cars around and around and end up in the same place they started... Rally is awesome |

Cross country! Like the Dakar (which the last two years went through Argentina and Chile, and next year will go Argentina-Bolivia-Brazil-Peru) is brilliant, even if VW's dominate. You should try the Silk Way Rally as well, St Petersberg to Beijing. |

Rally is just a test of cars sold to drug dealers trying to escape justice. It is not racing at all. |

The Paris-Dakar rally was moved to SA because of terrorist threats. I wasn't much of a fan actually, they just went throught dunes of sand... and more dunes of sand... and more dunes of sand... I prefer the Rally WC, there's more green in that, trees, rivers, etc.

Actually its amazing just how varied the terrain was through north Africa. I think the dunes only really came in in Mali and Muritania but Morocco was very rocky and Senogal could have a lot of greenery and waterfalls. |

Well, missed the 12 hours of Sebring (thanks to a weekend of drinking)
![]() With the NFL being gone this season I am going to make an effort to watch more racing again, Sports Cars, Indy, maybe even NASCAR again (basically my sporting habits before I got into football)! On a good note, Aussie GP is one week from today ![]() I have no qualms with Albert Park, fine enough track but I don't know... Also heard it's not as popular these days, even back in the day it never got as big as Adelaide and the progger in me just likes change every once in a while! I would like to see the Aussie GP at Surfers Paradise! I love that street circuit. Phillip Island may be cool, or if F1 decides to go suicidal, Bathurst ![]() |
