I'm 16 :D I listen to alot more "old" music then new prog tho :) Classics are usually better to my ears then new prog, but I still enjoy listening to alot of "new" prog bands like PTree, Riverside, etc

in my prog journey i have had long fazes where my attitude to listening has been [insert Walter qoute here] but now i tend to base my listening on hearing anything i haven't heard yet, this is still usually 70's stuff but i do now look for highly rated albums from any decade beyond and before and usually from any country but Britain considering my past listening habits.

I'm 55, and I enjoy playing Robert Fripp lead guitar solos over Justin Bieber songs. Does that count?

Of course this is true! (seeing as I'm 16 and love almost every sub-genre of prog)
Don't be dumb guys, age really has little to no bearing on what people listen to, it's all about the mindset...

I'm 15 and prog is my favourite music genre. I mainly listen to rush, yes, king crimson, pink floyd and dream theater but I do like other artists. And yes I do too tend to listen to music from the prog metal subgenre a lot such as tool and periphery.

I'm 15, and while I listen to metal, Opeth, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, my main thing is stuff like Genesis, Spock's Beard, Van Der Graaf Generator, etc. For some reason I've never really been a big fan of King Crimson, sure it's great, but nowhere near as good as some of the people here will make it out to be.

I'm 43 and I got into prog through prog metal (Rush). I bet a lot of older proggers had Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin as the springboard. The prevalence of heavier music among younger music fans has been there for a long time.

It's true. Most young people tend to have alot of metal music in their catalouge. But that doesnt mean all of them do. There are obviously people who break this mold and enjoy other music genres more, or dislike metal in general.

The majority of people in any age group are not serious metal fans. That number will rise if you start including the harder edges of rock as "metal", but I am quite certain that most people do not have "alot" of Megadeth and Born of Osiris CDs. Although Wikipedia says Wolfmother are metal so maybe I have a much narrower view of the genre than everyone else.

I'm 18, and more of a Jazzy-prog. I don't like prog metal unless it's Extreme Prog Metal.

I didn't start specifically with metal, but my accidental introduction to prog did involve a lot of it.
I quite like most of the other stuff I've heard. I think it's just that progressive metal was more accessible to me (and maybe others) when I was younger-- I didn't have the patience for longer songs unless they were longer songs in which guys were being loud.

I'm 18, and I prefer Progressive rock like Genesis, ELP, Floyd, Gryphon, Solaris, etc. than Prog Metal, although I enjoy bands like Dream Theater, Rush and Ayreon a lot, and also metal bands that aren't prog (Iron Maiden).

Iron Maiden is awesome! And I agree, progressive rock is where I found good music , but metal in general has taken over my life since then.

I'm 14 and my favorite bands are Gentle Giant, The Mothers of Invention, Miles Davis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Hatfield and the North, Egg, Soft Machine, Caravan, King Crimson, Camel, Genesis, Henry Cow, Gong, National Health, Yes, Return to Forever, Happy the Man and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
I guess I pass by the prog metal stereotype.
