I would probably be sad and mad that someone shot him. I wouldn't take out my anger on the very notion of legally owning a gun.

If your brother got food poisoning would you call for restaurants to be abolished?

lulz how is that even a fair comparison? LOL

That's a very fair comparison, actually.

The best way I can think of to stop crime is to eliminate the source of crime - people.

Oh and for the record, I have never fired a single shot from a gun.
Most I've ever done is held one at a hunting store.

Have played with airsoft guns, (and they were the cheap ones) LOL
No one in my family has ever owned one, and maybe one or two my friends families ever have.

So can't say "lol crazy merkan with your 9000 guns"

See? A lot of good that did right? LOL

And that's what I mean Caio. I DO believe all you need is a handgun or shotgun. No need for an uzi, automatic, grenade launcher LOL BUT have to be realistic, anyone who wants one will just get one. So I see no point.
Besides law abiding citizens may obey the laws, but someone who is already a criminal...well why would they follow it?
So now gang members still have all their guns and some good, law abiding citizens may not. I'm not even making that up, once saw a small interview with a gang member saying how they love new gun control laws since it gives them an upper hand. Real nice. Ermm

And that is really all that you need, man. I have a cousin that is a policeman that serves on our local "special batallion" and he told me that they only need the guns they have because they need to counter the criminal's fortifications, at times. Hell, he said thay, if you are not careful, the recoil can brake your shoulder. Shocked

Besides, you ain't going to kill anybody, you are just defending yourself. That is exactly the logic that we have here. You can't buy a weapon out of the blue, you need to have good reasons. For example, if you had your house / car / etc stolen and you make a report about that (I don't know the name you use in English, but in Portuguese it is an "Ocurrance Bulletin") and it may help you to buy a gun, but it is overall pretty hard.

You need to have a really good reason, go throught technical, psychological and physical tests and a bunch of other stuff before you get a permit to have a gun. You can't carry it around, though. Only very few people can do that (policemen, criminal judges, some prosecuters, and people with special permits etc) and everybody must anually (or every 5 yerars, I don't remember exactly) be re-evaluated in order to see if they still can have the permit.

Also, both guns and ammunition are very expensive. It isn't anybody who is able to have them, what limits even more the access even if you, theorically, have the possibility of buying a gun.

The system is pretty good. The only thing that we need now is killing every last politician who allow the druglords to exist.

Most of my family likes to shoot (read: everyone but my mom), so we've got a shotgun for my dad, my brother, myself, and one to split between my two youngest siblings, so we can all go out to the trap range and shoot clays together with very little hassle.  We also have my grandfather's old 1930's Winchester .22 rifle that I borrowed to clean up and shoot.  I wouldn't say that is a lot of guns.

Also Caio, I see Brazil is building another uber dam?

Didn't the Itapu (sp?) Dam turn out to be a failure due to decreased rainfall and causes blackouts?
Also lol it displaces thousands of family and ruins wildlife.

Huzzah for progress!

I noticed that you resisted answering James about gun laws and I was prepared to give you kudos. Clap Anyway, we did exhaust this theme of debate in the old "police hold-up" thread.

WTF. That's not Itaipu.

We are currently building two ultra-hueg dams: one in Pará (which might be the one you are referring to), which will cause the displacement of some indians, and one in Rio de Janeiro, who will displace some farmers.

Also, get your sh*t straight dewd. The blackouts are due to the criminal lack of investment of Lula in infrastructure and our old, ineffective electricity distribution system (which dates back to the 70's Shocked). Besides, hydro is renewable, non-pollutant, everlasting and does not cause wars and do not chage due to the will of some powerful man who controll the market. it also provides drikable water and does not ruin wildlife, resevoirs do flood "usable" land, but they serve as a aquatic wildlife sanctum. And don't come with that "OMFG, THINK OF THE SALMONS!" BS, salmons can't jump 80 meters high.

Well it was Itaipu, because I looked into it and it's been blamed for blackouts.
So bad system or not that IS the one.

And there's a bit more to the wildlife than salmon I think LOL

Agreed with Alex, thanks Pat! Especially since I  failed miserably to keep my mouth shut Embarrassed

Bear Grylls is a meanie. He could have smacked the salmon against a rock to kill it, but he didn't and just took a bite out of the poor living thing and then threw it away. Disapprove

Listening to Tyondai Braxton...he seems to have an obsession with effects pedals.  According to the discogs page for this album, everything (except a couple guest appearances on a couple songs) is run through them...vocals, drums, and guitar.
