He's not that bad. He's not amazing either. I like it.

Besides, I was air drumming along to it in the car earlier. Some of the drumming parts are my favourite parts.
He doesn't need to be Yoshida or Dave Smith.

The Mantle is their second album. Plus I was talking about Ashes Against the Grain, not The Mantle.

No. Ashes Against the Grain is their third album. Pale Folklore is their first.

I like the drumming in Marrow Of The Spirit, especially for the peculiar sound. It's a new drummer btw, which explains the difference compared with the previous albums.

The drumming on The Mantle was pretty mediocre now that I think of it. Of course, I don't think that's why most people listen to the band in the first place.

Yes but bad drumming can detract from the experience, specially when you've played drums and sometimes even involuntarily pay extra attention to it..

True enough. I'm also not the biggest fan of "black metal" vocals or whatever you call what's happening on The Mantle.

I actually like black metal vocals. I called agalloch's first (well, second) album "black metal" when I had little experience with real black metal and I was sent to hell by a lot of people here, both fans of Agalloch and fans of black metal. They wanted me to call it either post-metal or avant-garde

Oddly enough Ashes reminds me a bit of Guapo. Not in a musical sense so much. I cannot explain it. Both kind of have that black-metal/post-metal feel at times. Guapo also have a Doom feel.
Try Gwynbleidd.

I would love to have AMM as my initials. NEF isn't exciting at all. Oh dear.
