You know Loek, srsly now, the dissonance so characteristic of music written since the second half of the XX c. is nothing but a way to masque the player's lack of ability or intimacy with its instrument. No bullsh*t. Classical composers were particularly enthusiastic in defending that because it was very true in the beginings if atonal, dodecaphonic music and experimental classical.
Let this sink in for a second there.

No, I am not. That is the very unadulterated truth. Many composers on Brasil and abroad (Europe mainly) destroyed their original handwritten scores because they believe that music had either degradeted to a point beyond return and that those things needed to be destroyed or that those things would not survive outside the ranks of pseudo-intellectuals who could not understand music and actual educated and studied people who could understand the music purely on its technicality. My mother did her Masters thesis on Music on this theme (contemporary music), so I have a huge source of information / material on that.

I have no clue about modernist music, but this idea is a very well spread cliche in the world of the visual arts. Actually, most of the abstract painters and sculptors were amazing technicians, well versed with the formal language of their art. Simplicity was in their case the end of an evolution that implied a lot of thought and practice with form.

because he said the old shred title (shriendship is magic) was lame. Being the fruitcake that he is, Henners cried his heart out.

Meh, lack of ability? Like I said, her guitar playing isn't fantastic, but to make alt rock it doesn't have to be. It's good enough this way, and has the rawness that gives her music a sharp edge and makes me enjoy it so much. Of course classical music is a different thing.

That's highly debatable Alex. Let's take Picasso for example. Wile it is well known that during the begining of his career he was actually a pretty decent painter (pink & blue periods) he was far from being anything extraordinaire. Hell, Hitler painted better than him and he wasn't a master artist (but let's leave that for da nazi thread, lol). In music, wile that is true for the most considerable part of the first wave of composers, this rapidly changed. BR composer Radamés Gnatalli, when destroying his experimental pieces (atonal, etc), one of the reasons for such was that "most of the composers [nowadays] is using this as a way to hide their lack of talent, inspiration and overall lazyness [when writing music]". Things deteriorated really really quick. This is one of the reasons why I am so carefull when listening to that supposedly "avant-garde" stuff.

No, it is not. People that do that on popular music basically borrow from the same principle. They cannot be separated on that specific matter.

They are pretty f**kkin awesome. Lost their way a bit after Max left but their last 2 albums are actually pretty good, especially Dante XXI. Wish more people would try it, good stuff. And their classic stuff is just killer. Also Caio remember when I said Rubens would the 2011 F1 champion? He still has a ride for this season! My prediction is coming true!!! He's gunna win all 19 races, and retire as uber champ.
