Also, Ivan, they have not banned Nazi ideology, they have banned symbols used by the Nazis. That is very different. You can have the symbols without Nazi ideology and you can have Nazi ideology without the symbols.

I think most of the comments posted here are fine, but the thread title posted by snowdog is different and it was done on purpose.

^Nobody will. I don't think we have nazis in our midst. But I'm happy we can talk about them.

I notice you've added a new composer to your sig, Teo. I don't recognize him offhand. Is it Handel?

The thread title reads like an endorsement, not a discussion on free speech and it was done on purpose by snowdog trying to be provacative on purpose

OK
I only bring it up because Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:
"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."

Because I was a little appalled at what you said. We do not have to dare to criticize any country, we do not even need a justification, we just can. Anyone.
And apparently the idea is not that insane.

It seems to me that the only people who seek protection under such so-called 'rights' are those who know full well that their utterances or actions are completely indefensible.

There are those

But....that means it should not be the case at all?

X wants to say terrible things, claiming freedom of speech as an excuse.
Yeah! So, no freedom of speech then?

I'll say it one more time, (and yes you are open to disagree this is how I feel)
Freedom of Speech should be a universal human right.
That means for all, it won't always be pretty.

Why would a sane rational person want to say things that they believe are terrible/indefensible?

Ain't that a mental health issue? (and since when did 'rights' become 'excuses'?)

What does it matter? That's not the point.

Freedom of Speech is universal.

And very good!
"It seems to me that the only people who seek protection under such so-called 'rights' are those who know full well that their utterances or actions are completely indefensible."

To me that sounds like you are saying people in those cases are using rights as an excuse, and you turned it around to make me look bad. You'd be a good politician! Clap

Speaking of free speech, I'm beginning to wonder if snowdog is a nazi sympathizer.

Yep. I noticed that, after Bach, it is of his works that I have the largest number of cds. I guess he's also one of my favorites (besides, 11 Messiahs should mean something )

Damn except for Shostakovich, all the people in my sig are austro-germans... I must be nazi!!
