I want to say that the discussion problems is the clash of personalities/views combined with one person not speaking in the same cultural version of English as the other. So Ivan might be saying something that he thinks makes perfect sense but doesn't translate culturally.

I thought Santeria and Sangria were the same thing when I was younger. It made the Sublime song very confusing.
