Long story, but basically everyone got pissed at everyone because no-one could agree.

If not every single person was so stuck-up about their (incorrect in the first place) beliefs regarding the genre, it wouldn't be a problem.  As it is, very few metal artists that are progressive get added, but anything that sounds exactly  like Dream Theater does, as well as anything that features masturbatory guitar solos
