The Future Imperfect
by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 5:40pm

We are announcing the following shows:

April 7th, 2011 - Casbah, San Diego, CA

April 8th, 2011 - Troubador, Los Angeles, CA

April 10th, 2011 - The Independant, San Francisco, CA

If you go to these shows, you will have seen Sleepytime Gorilla Museum for the last time. As it turns out, we are being replaced.

It has been an honor to make our music with you, both in the room and not. Though these are our final performances, we are still in the process of finishing a new record, a short film called 'The Last Human Being', and a compendium live DVD that's been gathering source material for the past six years

You will be invited to take part in both the final shows, and the shooting of the final scene of our film in early August. Please stay tuned.

Ambugaton.

I have no idea what they mean by that. Perhaps they're referring to side projects?

I just assumed it was them being incredibly strange like usual.

This is sad,  but at least we have one last album to look forward to. This reminds me, it has been far too long since I actually listened to these guys

Their last tour should include the east coast I'd think. Tongue

But is a shock and a shame indeed. I'll definitely buy the new cd when available.

This is the worst news I've heard in years. Four of the best five concerts I've ever seen have been by them. I really hope they keep making music in some form.

I've still never quite gotten into SGM for some reason, but I've always wanted to see them live, given their reputation and the indisputable quality of their compositional skill and musicianship. I guess that's another one to cross off the "maybe one day" list...

Or perhaps it means we'll see a new permutation of the group. SGM arose from the ashes of Idiot Flesh, so perhaps this points the way towards some further evolution. Either way, this isn't a declaration of retirement on behalf of the band members. I'm sure we'll see plenty of activity from them all in one way or another for good while yet!
