and also Song of Scheherazade is hard to forget

any other suggestions?

sorry but for me Beethoven wouldn't stand a chance against Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante or Gorecki's 3rd Symphony, - as for progressive music I just can't decide!

i meant it as a personal preference when i posted it but looking back it does seem like i'm stating it as an indisputable fact so my bad on that one.

Exactly! The first time I only played it for about a minute and thought, meh. But when I came back to it and listened to the piece in full, I was, as you said... Blown away!

Good choice !! It's in my top 3 of all time. Also Collage's Moonshine always blew me away same as Clepsydra's Alone. And of course my top fav ever Pendragon's Not of this World

Where classical music beauties are concerned: Grieg's Holberg Suite, Tchaikowsky's, Mendelssohn's and Beethoven's violinconcerto's are crackers too.

If I the prog world limit is in place I think it will have to be either 9-29-045 by Green Carnation or the final part of Gazpachos Massive Illusion.

If we remove the prog requirement it would easily be Vallåt Från Jämtland by Jan Johansson closely followed by Flamenco Sketches from the second greatest jazz album of all time.

The most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard hands down as you say is non prog
Sarah Brightman - My Heart Will Go On. I start to cry just thinking of it. There is no video of the version I speak of.

Prog?

A thinking list.
Ain Soph - Valley of Lutha?
ANT- The Reaper? What Are TheyDoing to My Little Friends? Slow Dance?
Yes-Awaken?
Genesis-Firth of Fifth? Stagnation? Open Door!!!!!!!
Marillion- Bitter Suite, Blind Curve, Sugar Mice
Mostly Autumn - The Last Climb?
Magic Pie - What If ?
Parsons - The Eagle Will Rise Again? If I Could Change Your Mind?
Morse - I Am Your Father?
Fish- A Gentleman's Excuse Me?
Moody Blues - Nights in white Satin?
Harmonium - Too many to list. Prelude D' Amor ....

Ok I could go on and on.... The winner is

Strawbs - So Shall Our Love Die

This Sarah Brightman has had over 12 million views in various forms. If you haven't seen it....Guess it's time

Also side note Andrea Boccelli is blind. Almost puts Prog to shame. Almost. Lol

This song is so beautiful because when Gabriel sings "gripped in fright"..it reminds me of the other lyric "kryptonite" which Peter also mentions in this lovely album. Of course I'm talking about "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" and the song is "The Lamia"
The Lamia.. Excellent choice!

What I find 'most beautiful' in terms of art and music changes from day to day, mood to mood, etc. It's not an answerable request, sorry. Unhappy

wasn't really a request  it is obviously a matter of opinion everything in music is i was just interested to see what other prog fans found to be 'most beautiful' piece of music, i find early genesis to be beautiful yet somebody else might suggest larks tongues in aspic to be so implying ignorance on my part is well...ignorant

What the hell are you even talking about? When did I imply that you were ignorant? As you said, it's about my opinion, and guess what? I gave my opinion! What I feel is most beautiful changes much too often for me to give an exact answer.

Jesus, even when I'm trying to steer clear of trouble on here, somebody has a problem with me. Angry
I know how you feel...

But anyway to answer the question I'd have to say Cadence and Cascade by King Crimson.
Once upon a time there was some writing on the wall we all ignored, until the time that there was war and feasts of famine at our door
