The only Modest Mouse song I've ever really really liked was "Bury Me With It".
Such a fun tune. |

I do have the bugera cab, but i really don't like it (size and the tone of it as well), the cab i'd be thinking of getting is the Orange PPC212 (2x12 with Vintage 30's).
As for recording stuff, are you thinking of getting a mic as well? I'd recommend the SM57 + a M audio Fast Track II. Its what I use, and Ben said he got some really good clips out of it on logic

Definitely an SM-57. I'm mostly looking at the Avid Mbox 3 right now as far as interfaces go, although I haven't done much looking. I'm probably gonna save up a few hundred for monitors too.

How many instruments/tracks will you be recording at once?

1 at most pretty much definitely.
Most of the stuff I've done so far involved anywhere between 2 and 10 tracks, although they've all been recorded one after the other (hard to play two instruments at once ) Edited by progkidjoel - February 03 2011 at 06:05 |

Well if you got an interface that has multiple mic inputs, you could record with a 2 mic setup,
If your only recording 1 track at a time (with 1 mic as well) then the Fast Track II is really hard to beat. You can get one at better music/pro audio for $150-$160. My setup cost $350 (mic, interface, cable, stand)

I could buy that like tomorrow. I might go do that sometime in the next week or so actually Had no idea the Fast Track II was that cheap. The Avid Mbox 3 is like 3-400$ AU.
Yeah, the main thing I like about the covers is that it seems to present the base and atmosphere of the originals in a completely different way, rather than just a straight up cover with different musicians. Edited by progkidjoel - February 03 2011 at 06:12 |

I'm intrigued, I'd love to use something like that for recording. Looks so much more simple/like less of a hassle than even the basic direct input stuff I'm doing now. How is it overall? |

Well I had to take mine back to the place today because it stopped working. (Don't let that put you off, it really is a good device). But for the three months it was working for it was: Simple/Easy to use (after I put down the manual). Good recording quality, CD worthy. Guitar/bass input in the TASCAM is really good. Screen is rather dull though. I'd recommend it. |

I would like to dick around with pedals and stuff, but they're ludicrously expensive, especially considering that I would mostly be using them for noise.

Joel, the Tascam is about $279 (according to ebay.au) Seems like pretty good kit.
The Fast Track has 24bit/48khz whereas the Tascam has 16bit/44.1khz if that matters...

That's like $1000 of equipment right there. I'm way too cheap and poor for that.

It looks pretty amazing from having a quick look around now. It's awesome that you can easily pull the stems into programs after as well. I'll have to reconsider my situation now. |
