It does not bother me that people like NHM. It bothers me that people think they're "weird". They're not.

LOL, it really impresses me how many sensible comments you are making these days Henry. Wink

"Alternative" is a stylistical descriptor since a long time ago, it's indie that these band aren't any more (though it must be mentioned that "indie-rock" is also a stylistical descriptor up to a certain extent).

I never really could dig indie- and alt-rock, except for things like Nocturnes that are both actually indie and actually good

Wolf Parade are good. Apologies to the Queen Mary is one of the best indie rock albums. It's really not a genre I'm very familiar with, though.

Hey Truthy,  I was hoping you'd show up, I want to ask you something. How come you're a fan of classic alternative rock? That stuff was popular a decade ago, and most of the fans are people who were around back then.

Which stuff would that be? Like what artists in particular?

Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkings, Neutral Milk Hotel, Doves if I'm not wrong (basically late 90s early 00s music that you keep mentioning).

I'm not sure why I like them, Radiohead I found on this site. With Neutral Milk Hotel I saw an album cover that I thought looked neat so I bought the album. And with Smashing Pumpkins, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was for sale for like $5 at a CD store.

I actually listen to them more than I realize.

I see, it was more of a series of coincidences. If you want some recommendations in this area, let me know.

Well actually if you could give me a band that's a great blend over SP's emotional playing and NMH's folky-indie rock, I would love you Alex.

I don't think there was much classic alt. rock with a proeminent acoustic approach, or at least I don't know it. How about Urban Hymns?

Also, do you know Doves?

I shall throw a random yet very good and slighty older alt-rock band at you all: Spin Doctors

Mmmm.  Pocket Full of Kryptonite is a cool album.  Well, it was about 15 years ago when I last heard it.

And yes it is 5 times Platinum.

I was even going to try a Deadsy album the other 'cause it's got Greg Allman's son in it but I didn't in the end as I re-read their description and it sounded like I'd hate it.

I'm really surprised this thread hasn't exploded yet. By page count, we should have pierced the veil by now and reached the yaoi zone.

Alternative is what they play, there is no other name to their style. Give me a better name and I'll use it. And who exaclty sold out? There is definitely no band who sold out in my list of favourites. U2 maybe, but that's debatable (IMO they were from the very beginning on the accessible side of post-punk).

Question: how come I still clicked play even though I saw yaoi in the title?
