Hey Truthy, I was hoping you'd show up, I want to ask you something. How come you're a fan of classic alternative rock? That stuff was popular a decade ago, and most of the fans are people who were around back then.

And it sucks, I might add.

If I listen to it, it obviously doesn't suck!

Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkings, Neutral Milk Hotel, Doves if I'm not wrong (basically late 90s early 00s music that you keep mentioning).

Older alt. rock is actually good, though it depends on the artist. 200x better than all of this modern crappy alternative coming out.

What alt. rock do you like? You never mentioned any, I think.

I'm not sure why I like them, Radiohead I found on this site. With Neutral Milk Hotel I saw an album cover that I thought looked neat so I bought the album. And with Smashing Pumpkins, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was for sale for like $5 at a CD store.
I actually listen to them more than I realize.

Some of the newer stuff is OK, the alt-rock that calls itself "progressive" is good.

Grungy stuff, Alice in Chains and the Stone Temple Pilots are far and away my favorites, but also stuff like the Foo Fighters, Filter, Helmet, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and select bits from Smashing Pumpkins' and Green Day's discography.

Those are all still extremely popular in the US, I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe not as well known as Ke$ha, but you can't walk 5 websites on the internet without tripping over a Neutral Milk Hotel. And the bands Necron mentioned above me are still played on alt rock radio.

Yeah, that's the only reason I'd even consider turning on the radio. When I was on break I didn't have any of my CDs or my iPod adapter for my car so I turned on the radio from time to time, and sometimes I found stuff like that on that was worth listening to.

New alternative rock is by far the thing I'm the most interested in, stuff like The Flaming Lips (they're not actually new but they lead this wave), Arcade Fire, Wild Beasts, Dirty Projectors, Phoenix, The Antlers, The XX, Mew, Kumm, The National, Modest Mouse, etc.

I see, it was more of a series of coincidences. If you want some recommendations in this area, let me know.
