Topic: I have a song here... or something like that Posted: January 22 2011 at 06:38
Hey guys, I wrote a song using Guitar Pro and I need some feedback... I'm saving for a midi keyboard and some other stuff to record it. It's a kind of sketch, I want to form a band someday and I do not intend to make the other guys play this note by note, but I think this should work as a guide or something like that...
Anyway, I hope you like it, I fear I'm pushing myself too hard and some stuff doesn't sound as naturally as I would like to...
Nevermind, here it is:

I think it's pretty damn awesome! I like the solos.
What's your musical background? Do you have any formal training?
Well I'm studying music theory right now at University, I just finished my first year in December... but if you ask me about the harmony of the song, I really don't know what to say... I know the name of the chords and stuff, but I do it all by "ear", I can't make an extensive analysis about the harmony if you ask me to...

I agree, I like it, too . But is the double fake ending not a bit much ? BTW, what we see in the video is the rhythm section, isn't it?
yeah I was thinking about removing it, but I love that final chord and I wanted to put in somewhere. xD
Indeed, it is the rhythm section
=)

It really sounds very well made! I especially like the 7/8 and 5/8 sections. It really sounds like you have a great understanding of harmony - the different parts with all the different chords fit together really well despite being completely different.
Do you play an instrument? I would guess drums (because the fills in this piece are awesome).
I really enjoyed this! Excellent work. Beautiful ideas within a wonderful composition. Only slight influences of Happy the Man or Kit Watkins are present.....however,...NOT nearly enough to take away from your originality. Very melodic and complex. Good luck to you. You are a great writer!

Ahh really fun to hear this :) I'm positively surprised, liked it a lot. I'm a guitar pro user myself, and write pretty much all of my ideas in there. Haha, I even relate to the usage of names like "Thing", "Another thing" and so on. I think it'll turn out really nice when you find a band. Good luck

I play bass, guitar and keyboard, in that order... I'm not a drummer, I'd like to learn some percussions though and then adventure myself into the amazing world of tuned idiophones!! I'm a big fan of vibraphone!!!
But I do pay a lot of attention to drumming when I listen to music, when I first started writing the drums for my music it was just a big copy/paste of Bruford fills.
Thanks for listening and commenting Nath and everybody, it's nice to see people that can give an opinion without complaining about the sound quality and stuff like that, I can upload some other songs I have if you want to.

Haha! The McZombie song was a fun listen. Would be interesting to hear how this sounded in real instrumentation. I also eventually noticed the lyrics haha :D Heard the other youtube songs too, but the one if your first post up there is my favorite so far. Keep it up!

These are the last two songs I wrote, I finished them on July-August this year... I haven't been able to finish anything since then, but I'm actually working on a couple of songs right now...
I'd really like to record my songs but... haven't got the equipment to do it =(
