Topic: Cathedral (metal band) Posted: November 11 2010 at 21:38
Not to rag on the prog rock group, but I've always been a huge fan of the metal band Cathedral. For those not familiar with them, they started out doing funeral doom, and then moved onto doing a combination of prog metal, stoner metal, and a bunch of other styles. Any other fans of them on here?

I loved their early stuff. It's very difficult to be really slow and not be boring, yet they pulled it off.

yes, "Geo", I know Portal. 'Outre' has a very oppressing atmosphere, it's a very strange album.

Great band - one of the best - Endtyme is a superb slab of psychedelic laden doom.
What?

Disembowelment is not a love song then?
I actually quite liked this, especially the drummer who
creates space rather than just fills it.

Yes that is the one...
..actually I don't really like it that much. Not enough flavour for me. I love blue cheeses though especially Stilton

Atheist is another great classic prog-metal act, especially their 1993 epic "ELEMENTS":

Are you implying that Cathedral are prog metal ?
I don't really see the connection between Atheist (jazzy death metal) and Cathedral (doom metal).

None what so ever. I thought we'd moved on from that and were only talking about the thread topic: Cathedral. Chrome Hoof is a band featuring a Cathedral band member and a guest appearance by Dorrian, surely that's more pertinent.
