Any amp suggestions, I can spend up to $500-600 NZD, and I basically have no idea to what I want/need.

Hey, there are 3 people on the Penny Arcade forums that have over 100,000 posts, don't feel so bad. One of them got his post count reset, and the other finally got permabanned, so I have no statistics on them, but the third has averaged 33 posts per day since 2003. Woohoo.

Hmmm, I guess you'll want a combo, you can probably get a decent 5 watt tube amp for that much. If you want something with some effects, a good dirty channel and a good clean channel, these are supposed to be fantastic  and are well within your price range:

They also do it in lower wattages; you probs won't need more than 10 for a practice amp.

I know f**k all about amps.

Tube amp = uses vacuum tubes to isolate the signal and get better tone, considered more luxury/higher end per normal.
Solid state = general circuit amps, still fine although not as all round fantastic as tube amps are.
Modelling amp = a solid state amp w/built in circuits to provide built in effects, basically stuff like reverb, delay, stuff like that.

Hmm.

I'll probably go as high quality as I can. I may just have to try a few out instore. The shop will allow me now that I'm a high roller.

A 5 watt tube amp w/a clean and dirty channel would be perfect for home practice, although you'd need moar powa to keep up with a drummer or something like that.
