R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty. Too bad he died, and even more because it's of alcoholism. I just listened for the first time last month to "City To City", because I'm crazy about "Baker Street". He was a very talented man. There were some more good songs that he wrote.
Mick Karn was still young, very unexpected . Also a very talented musician! R.I.P.

The music world lost a great singer/songwriter today with the passing of Gerry Rafferty at the age of 63.
The weird thing is a had a huge urge to hear Baker Street a couple of weeks ago and pulled out his excellent album City to City and listened to it for the first time in years.
RIP

RIP Gerry. Great talent. His music will always have a special place for me-Stuck in the Middle With You was the first song I played guitar on in a cover band back in 1973! He will be missed.

Stuck in the Middle With You is such a great tune.I always liked Rafferty's voice and his music was part of my musical backdrop when I was growing up in the 70's.

Sad news indeed. Gerry was probably best known for his solo career, and in particular his hits with "Baker Street" and "Night owl". He was also a member of Steelers Wheel "Stuck in the middle with you".
Prior to that, Rafferty was a member of The Humblebums whose line up also included a young Billy Connolly.
A personal favourite of mine is the song "That's the way it always starts" written by Mark Knopfler for the film "Local hero" and sung by Gerry.
RIP Gerry Rafferty, a true Local Hero.

RIP Gerry, a wonderful talent. I love several of his albums including City to City, Night Owl and Snakes and Ladders. So many great songs apart from the obvious two - Home and Dry, The Royal Mile, Mattie's Rag, Right Down the Line, The Ark, Get It Right Next Time....
The Garden of England was probably the ultimate comment on Thatcher's Britain, far more pertinent (and a better song) than anything the punks came up with.

The funeral is taking place in my local church and he was born in my local area too. I know Bakers Street pretty well, but I do not know the rest of his discography. His passing is very sad indeed and he was one of the greats in the British music scene. R.I.P.

"Right Down The Line" is one my favourite songs of all time! I had a 'best of' of his once. Only know him from that CD and that Stealers Wheel hit.

Great voice, sad news.
Didn't know about Mick Karn, I have an album he recorded in trio with David Torn and Terry Bozzio, he was a very talented bassist.

Yeah you got that right. Mick Karn was a great fretless bass player. Gerry Rafferty was a good song writer. Baker Street was a classic but I always liked this song as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vGMgov_S5s RIP to both these artists......Tony C.

This is waaaaay late but...
It was so sad the way his story ended but at least we can continue to support his wonderful music. His later albums such as 1988's "North and South" and (even more so, IMHO) 1982's "Sleepwalking" are criminally overlooked. The latter I didn't even discover until 1989, thanks to imbecilic radio program directors who apparently deemed his music a thing of the past by then. If you liked "City to City" you can't NOT like "Sleepwalking." Best tracks are Standing at the Gates, The Right Moment and As Wise As a Serpent.
