You don't get much more moronic than Net Neutrality.

I love the article's title: "What is best for freedom?". It then presents two options: government regulation i.e. anti-freedom, or freedom.

Hmm, tough call.

Sorry, but what's moronic is having a system altered for the profit of a few companies when our hard earned tax dollars went to set if up in the first place.  You want to pay extra for accessing this site at the speed you are accustomed to?  Fine.  You want to further enrich these companies at your expense?  You are totally free to send them more of your money voluntarily right now. I really don't understand how somebody can be against Net Neutrality (as an overall concept, the Moby buzzword thing is kind of annoying), but maybe I just spend too much time on the internet. It's the way the internet has always been, as far as I know, and then when people are trying to uphold it suddenly it's an overreach of government power.

The US is a travesty to all police states, if they want to be legit they shoulda just sent him on "vacation" to the middle of Alaska without any supplies or food.

And damn, lawyers can argue they way out of anything I suppose

I think not letting you see the evidence the prosecution used until after a decade of constant pestering is pretty bad.

Eh....yeah, it's pretty bad but America used to be #1, in everything! It's the pride of our nation.
We really need to step up our police state activities.

No JJ, we are number 1 in FREEDOM! THERE SHOULD BE NO POLICE STATE ACTIVITIES!

I heard on NPR some guy from the Brookings Institute talking about cutting the defense budget by 10%. The actual talk is rather long, but what gleaned from skimming it was pretty interesting.

This is a brilliant free market solution! How come nobody's thought of this before?

Oh cmon, you've read this thread! You know we are sooooo not free.
I mean, we are literally a police state mang.....freedom seems far away.
So we might as well perfect the tyranny.

And yeah, I am glad the idea of cutting defense spending is floating out there.
It's the right thing to do, but Republicans are NOT libertarians (no matter how many may pretend to be)

I'd imagine getting a Rep to even say "Cut spending in the defense budget" would cause them instant heart attack.
Excluding the Paul's.
So glad at least  libertarians are willing to say it. I'd like to see mainstream Reps get on board with it though!

Oh, and there should be no speed limits.
How the hell can they tell me how fast to drive the car that I bought with my moneys!
100 mph down town roads, all the way baby.

And how come no one took my idea of arming the poor seriously? It would eliminate ALL need for welfare, total competition solution. It's gunna be a key flank of my platform.

It's the same marketing, the same concept, as that of anti-trust regulation.

Why should there be?

Why should there be what? Speed limits?

It does keep traffic at a sane point on the highways
Of course speed limit 65 means 65-80 for most, but at least it's contained.

If you abolish speed limits Pat, I am truly moving away! Last thing I want is to be one these highways....with large amounts of people driving 120mph
And don't say the market will negate this, since those who do it will crash and die and others will realize it's dangerous...it's still gunna happen LOL

It happens now with speed limits.  Speed limit laws are more about padding the law enforcement budget than they are about preventing accidents.  Speed limit laws prevent speeding like anti-drug laws prevent drug use: not at all.  You cannot effectively regulate behavior.  Drivers adjust their speed based on road conditions (including pot-holes, weather, other drivers, etc) now and would continue to do so if there were no posted limits.

I don't need to say that because speed limit don't dictate people's speed, which is why you see people doing 80 on highways and 10 down city streets. People govern themselves.

If the government is ever, EVER going to do one properly....all I ask is that they do a better f**king job plowing the roads.
My car does need new tires, but money has not exactly been there recently.

I'll get em replaced soon but until then....these roads are horrid. I am honesty afraid to drive to work tomorrow.
At least the parkway was spotless. At least that's ONE example of tax dollars being used right.

Sad

The parkway was spotless because of heat from friction, not the government competently plowing the roads.
