Sweet is the antithesis of Prog, Love is l Like Oxygen is a good song...But we are talking about a Glam band.

Sweet are not the antithesis of Prog. What a ridiculous statement. And to call Sweet a "Glam" band is not to know Sweet.

Love Is Like Oxygen is as Prog as any of the songs here.

I know. This is the thread about. More or less Prog songs from NON Prog bands. For example, Kiss is the antithesis of Prog too.

Mother Earth would have been a better pick than Love Is Like Oxygen.

In that list, I went for "Love, Reign O´er Me", one of the most amazing songs ever written.

But my favorite prog song by a non-prog artist has to be from Loggins & Messina -- Either Angry Eyes, Sailin' the Wind, or Be Free -- probably Sailin' the Wind

A lot of great songs here. Doors, Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Who, Moody Blues would all make my list, although I voted for the Doors "The End" because it was one of the first songs I heard that truly transported me to another dimension. A song you could add to your list is "Let's Get The Show On The Road" by Michael Stanley -- the version off his "Friends and Legends" studio album, NOT the live version. I'm no fan of Michael Stanley by any means, but the aforementioned song is great. Great song, great vocals, great guitar, great rhythm section and a fabulous spacey sax that catapults the song to a higher lever.

April is without any doubt one of the best prog rock songs ever written, and it's not even done by a prog band. Every single prog fan should've heard it at least once.

I also choose "April" from my favorite Deep Purple album.
Vinyl just sounds better!!

Green Day as Prog? Confused

Interesting.

I´ve found this one on You Tube, it sounds like Prog Punk.LOL

Meh. It's interesting hearing Greed Day using a chord sequence slightly more complex than their usual fair, but it's not exactly complex. I still can't stand the vocals. WTF... Green Day using 7/8? I actually don't believe it.

Still, Green Day have zero musicianship. They need a touring guitarist to play the solos. Listen to this solo

I mean, Jesus, if they can't play that... they're absolutely pathetic.

Also, about the poll... haven't heard loads of these, but the two Queen songs are obvious choices.

I would NEVER classify Green Day as prog, this song just popped into my head when I read the forum topic. The only "progressive" thing about Before The Lobotomy would be the 7/4 time signature, and the I-IV-V chords have been used in pretty much every single Green Day song.

Sweet not Glam?

THE FRONT PAGE OF THE OFFICIAL SWEET SITE RECOGNIZES THEM AS A GLAM BAND, AND NOT JUST AS ANY GLAM BAND, BUT AS THE EPITOME OF GLAM

Quote The Sweet epitomised the UK 70's Glam Rock movement with their trademark glitter and Glam makeup

For God's sake, if you don't accept that The Sweet were a Glam band, you are the one who doesn't know them (I grew with songs like Ballroom Blitz), even they describe themselves as Glam, or do you pretend to know more about them than themselves?

Yes they made a couple of good rock tracks, but even their appearence is of a Glam band

And no, I don't believe that "Love is like Oxygen" is Prog,. a great rock song but not Prog

So please, before calling other person's opinions ridiculous or accusing them of not knowing what they say, verify what the band believes of themselves.

Iván

10cc - "Une Nuit a Paris"

10cc were much more of a Pop group with Art Rock influences, best known for their hits "I'm Not in Love" and "The Things We Do For Love"

Yet, "Une Nuit a Paris" is a three part suite that clocks in at 9 minutes, which has many key and tempo changes, as well as an unpredictable song structure (save for the Chorus).
