- Elton John auditioned for King Crimson and Gentle Giant
- American Idol Judge Randy Jackson played bass on Jean Luc Ponty's Mystical Adventures. - Jan Hammer went from Mahavishnu Orchestra to composing the theme song for the well-known TV series Miami Vice (Crockett's Theme) which was also a semi-chart hit. - King Crimson was referenced in the US sitcom Malcolm in the Middle when the dad is looking through a friend's record collection - Pink Floyd referenced in both House and Seinfeld. Chosen as replacement for Syd Barrett, who often didn't turn up for Pink Floyd's concerts in the early days, Steve Howe was about to enter stage with Pink Floyd when Syd turned up and Howe who was in high demand was quick to find another musical path.

Twink tried to setup a project with Syd Barrett after Pink Floyd, but after a couple of gigs he gave up to the idea. Those gigs have been the last public "performances" of Syd.

Another not so obscure fact, but still an interesting one:
In 1968 a single was released by a band calling themselves The Moles consisting of one song in two parts: We Are The Moles (part 1) and (part 2).
Apparently a tape of the recording was put in a Left-Lugage locker in London and the key sent to a major music paper with the instruction that the tape should be released on the Parlophone label.
Rumours then circulated that this band was really the Beatles recording under a pseudonym, others that it Ringo was singing lead vocals (some of the YouTube listings of this single still credit it as a rare Beatles track).
However, Syd Barrett eventually blew the whistle on the perpetrators as being Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, who admitted recording it following the lack of success of their next three singles after Kites.

I have downloaded a very badly recorded unofficial version of "What A Shame Mary Jane" on which Syd Barrett and Paul McCartney sing together with two guitars. The recording is very poor but the voices are recognizable. Just a curiosity.

^Somewhere in the vaults of Abbey Road is a version of "Let There Be More Light" featuring both Barrett and Gilmour. Some swear Syd is even on the ASOS version.

That's a fantastic idea. As long as we could keep it free of Waters-Gilmour drama, Livgren-Walsh drama, and Captain Beefheart-Everyone Else drama. Another thought: how about a People that Phil Spector has Personally Threatened thread? |

Probably not very obscure either...
When Patrick Moraz left the Moody Blues he sued them alleging that he ought to have been considered as a full band member and not just a guest musician. Eventually he won but he got much less than what he was claiming.
This makes me think of starting a new thread, "conflicts in Prog"?
