About the Montreal band, Mashmakhan:
Back in the day they were very big in Japan. (Who knows exactly why.)
Funny, but just a short while ago I mentioned them at Galactic Zoo forum (yahoo groups) saying how the organ on the second lp, "The Family" is one of the few places on vinyl where you can actually hear the Leslie whirl- Doppler effect.
Unlike most, I dislike the first lp, but on "The Family" there are a few prog moves here and there.
A tree-hugger myself, I still cringe at the lyrics on the last track, 'The Tree".
"The Family" used to be a rather common lp here in Ontario, but lately it took me a few years to locate a copy.

Okay, here's one for the heads:
what 4 member group put out their seminal* prog lp in '78 and, although not from Quebec, they were from France's smallest colony not that far from Quebec?
* seminal because there are no keys in this band

RDT:
Are you serious?
You puzzle me.
Your reply implies that I know only one prog group from France???
..........
The line in my post contains approx. a mere 20 words, yet you seem to have failed to spot the word , "colony".
Either its attention deficit disorder, or your taking the piss...or just dont care.
The lp in question was recorded in Montreal but the members all are from this island which, although only some 300 miles from the province of Quebec (and even though their currency is Canadian), is independent of Canada and a member of the Republic of France.
Oh oh!
Seems I have expended all of 50 words minimum here.
Hope this post is not lost on you.

Santana ehh?
Reminds me of a cross between Edgar Winter "Frankenstein" and "Holly Jolly Christmas" (sung by Burl Ives, of course). With a touch of Poison Girls.

BTW,I should mention that the original soundtrack of the porn flick "L'Apres-ski" will be reissued this coming january 25.It features the band The Illustration who released an excellent album of brass-funk tinged psych prog in the late 60's.They changed name to Man Made and released another album in 75 wich feature the most spectacula LP sleeve I have ever seen. they should be on PA.

Sex,Nebu and Michel Lefrancois should get the nod soon....

How about Dillinger? The Harrison brothers were from Montreal and Robert Harrison went onto Offenbach. The remaining members formed the Hunt.

What! She is now a permanent resident of Las Vegas!. She is making money in the desert very far from the mind of a truly quebec prog fan. Oh yes that's true, she is born in Québec... |
