Hi everyone,
My name is Jonathan, and I'm a drummer/composer from Chicago. I'm new here, and first I want to say that I have immense respect and admiration for all the pioneers of Progressive Rock, and it is daunting trying to carve out one's own little niche in a genre so filled with brilliance. That being said, I thought you guys might like to check out some new music that draws much, though not all, of its inspiration from the aforementioned pioneers. Yep, I've got a Prog Rock band called District 97 (featured here on ProgArchives under Crossover Prog), and our debut album "Hybrid Child" was just released worldwide on Tuesday 9/14 by Laser's Edge. The kicker that seperates us from any other prog band is that we feature 2007 American Idol Finalist Leslie Hunt and Chicago Symphony Orchestra virtuoso cellist Katinka Kleijn. Here are some links you guys can check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZaPUJrykAg (Music Video) www.district97.net (website) http://www.seaoftranquility.org/revi...ontent&id=9610 (Sea of Tranquility review) http://blog.billkopp.com/?p=306 (Bill Kopp review) http://www.goldminemag.com/blogs/ame...alum-goes-prog (Goldmine article) If you guys like what you hear, you can pick it up everywhere online for sale or download. Either way, I'd be curious to hear the thoughts of some like-minded music fans! Jonathan __________________

Intersting music video...not bad at all. Leslie Hunt sounds pretty good and the cellist addition is very cool. The album is also available on Zune Marketplace for download, I'm a subscriber so I'll download and give a listen in the next few days.
Good luck

I've been listening to the tune several times now.
This sounds fresh. I like the fact that the vocals actually play a part of the instrumentation and are not relegated to simple melody lines. More like a combination of modern pop rock vocals and gentle giant-esque vocals. (no one jump on me for calling out GG, I know its not entirely accurate) Just my thoughts. I'm hoping more people become aware of this music. Awesome stuff. Edited by Cybrmynd - September 22 2010 at 08:24 |

I really like it! Catchy, yet interesting. Very good musicianship, and an excellent singer. The cello adds a nice touch, giving you a unique sound. I only wish I had a cellist like that for my own project …

Wow the clip looks like animation movie I saw recently starring Keanu reeves
Now, the music is excellent - the female singer is clear and delivers well, the time sigs are odd and it is definitely prog. Catchy melody too, and heavy guitars mixed with classical instruments give an eclectic feel. Would like to get an album of this band.

I just read an article about this band in Progression Magazine this morning. Definitely sounded like an intriguing band that I'll need to track down their album for.

^ good job, one of my favorite Gen songs, it also shows how difficult it is to perform that music and to get all the levels and instrumentation right
