I just found out who did the voice of Shredder from the cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the early 90s.  Shocked

Would you believe it's James Avery, aka, Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?  Well it is.  And as soon as I found that out, I remembered Shredder's voice, and it totally fit.  I can't believe I never heard that before.

What are some other "shockers" when it comes to finding out someone did the voice of an animated character?

For me, these would include Mr. Krabs and The Joker.

Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants is voiced by Clancy Brown, who many of you will know better as the hard ass Captain Byron Hadley on The Shawshank Redemption.

Also, if you recall the awesome Batman: The Animated Series also from the early 1990s, well, I was surprised to learn several years ago that the voice of The Joker was none other than Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill.

So how about you?  Any shockers?

I'm surprised by all of the celebs doing voices for Robot Chicken (usually their own and as they are playing themselves no real surprises, but holy cow, look at the list):

I don't know if this counts, but I was shocked and horrified when I found out Dan Akroyd was doing the voice of Yogi Bear in the new movie. Actually, I was shocked and horrified that they're even making such a movie, but at least get a real voice actor to do it. It's not a hard voice to do well, but Akroyd sounds terrible.

Yeah, the best thing about Harry is that you don't always know it's him. Clap

- Frank Zappa provided the voice for the Pope on Ren & Stimpy (though he only said one word)
- Tom Petty provided the voice for Lucky on King of the Hill
- Charles Napier (long time character actor, might remember him as the leader of the county group chasing Jake and Elwood in The Blues Brothers) was the voice of Zed on the Men In Black cartoon and also does a sheriff's voice on Spongebob (though, I don't watch that show)
- Robert Guillaume (TV's Benson) has voiced Dr. Eli Vance in the Half-Life video game series

This is sort of a voice over, because you never see his face, but it's strange none-the-less:
Michael Stoyanov (Anthony Russo on Blosom, though I remember him as Ernie in Freaked) was one of the Joker's masked henchmen at the beginning of The Dark Knight.

Time always wins.

Shocked Zappa in my Ren & Stimpy!

And I only knew it was Tom Petty because I watch that show, otherwise I never would've thought.

A lot of old stars turn up in video games. Video games pay better because due to length, a dialogue heavy game will pay a lot more than your average cartoon.

And if you do play computer games, you may notice that in the classic Gabriel Knight series, Gabriel was played by Tim Curry and his best friend Mosely was played by Mark Hamil. (Except for #2 as that was live action and used actual actors.)

Also look out for Toonstruck which features Christopher Lloyd, Ben Stein, Dan Castellenetta (Homer Simpson), Dom Deluise and Tim Curry again AND is also a great game.
