+1,5LOL

LOL Brilliant!

Although i am against half stars, now seems to be the perfect time to implement it. Adjusting ones ratings is now so simple that it isn't a problem.

^ Can I humble add my +0.89 ? It's a good number (it was a good year) which can make some kind of paradox interference, as Brian's reaction was on my post. Sheesh :-)

The problem was with change of 0 => 1, because some people rated the worst albums with 0 stars and better (not that much better, more like slightly) albums with 1 stars, but then suddenly they both had the same rating.

1=>1
1.5
2=>2
2.5
3=>3
3.5
4=>4
4.5
5=>5

So basically we'll get 9 point system instead of current 5 point system. 5 old full stars and 4 half stars.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

Would love to, but reviewing for me personally takes quite some time and energy, just not something that comes natural, maby due to the fact that im not a great writer, and the language thing too, restricts me to only review in periods where i have some extra time.

Same here, I was only teasing Wink.
Although this weekend I will publish at least one review, because I promised the band to do so.

The bad thing about reviewing is that it cannot be forced. And believe, I've tried :-) It's as with drawing/painting, as with writing short stories / novel, it's creativity.

1. Since we will add more and more ratings only to the site, reviewers take note that I have also increase the weight of review rating from 5 to 10x for members, 10 to 20x for admins and collaborators. Understand that we still value more detailled reviews over rating only.  But I encourage members to quick rate to increase the overall value of the site top lists and average ratings to help discover the best prog out there from reviews or by checking average ratings or top lists. The algorithm that order top albums lists also take into consideration the other albums number of ratings, so it's a win-win option here. Warning: this will change the top albums list for sure, I think J-Tull TaaB is back #1 !

There ABSOLUTELY NO POINT  in casual users using this.  As I pointed out in detail some time ago unweighted votes have no impact because they are overwhelmed by the weighted votes.  And as you've just increased the weighting it's even worse... Ouch

Try to get more weight to your ratings instead of complaining.

This is a terrible argument, but it always seems to come up when people talking about this, and strangely it's always from the people who already have the weighting...

I don't care much either way, but he's right that there's almost no point in actually giving a rating only, which  really makes adding a quick rate feature equally useless, even if it's probably better for the site to minimize the impact of ratings only. And of course being able to quickly see which albums of a band you have already rated is nice too. I'm just saying.

For "rating only" everyone is the same, whether you are a collab or not the weighting is "1"

Alex meant "write a review", that increases the weighting for non-collabs to "10"

In light of this, collab weighting is only "2" since their "rating+reviews" equates to "20" and I think that 2:1 ratio is fairer than it has been for a long time.

However, personally I think the ratios of 10:1 and 20:1 are too high as the ratios of ratings to reviews is probably closer to 3:1 for most albums, but we are a review site, not a rating site.
What?

Of course there is a point to rating, which is why I also rate. I wouldn't rate if there wasn't any point to it. And like Dean says, my rating has the same weight as any other newbie's. Smile

I would like the feature mor eif it didn't significantly slow down the loading time of artist pages.  Try opening the page of someone who has fifty or more albums.  It takes forever (almost).
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

What I was supposing since a long time ago, the PA forum is using all the resources of the site (discography) and the performances of site is deterring.

I will be busy in the next day finding a solution, thanks for reporting
