Does anyone know if Windows Media Player can rip at 320 kbps? If so, how do you set it to do so? Also, can Windows Media Player be set to burn 'disk-at-once' (no gaps)? Thanks in advance.

It depends on what version you are using, I think. You can rip lossless and also set it to rip at any bitrate. I've been a little dissatisfied with the version in Windows 7. They took away the "most recent albums" and I haven't been able to figure out how to put it back in and I gave up. Go to the Options pulldown. It brings up a dialog that allows you to control ripped file rates. Problem solved for you, I hope.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Version 11.0.5721.5280 is the latest for XP as far as I am aware. I cannot find how you rip at 320 kbps or how you burn without gaps. I am fairly sure that you could with earlier versions.

I cannot even find a current Windows Media Player manual for version 11 and XP. At one time they were easy to obtain/download.

I have never gotten WMP to burn a cd without gaps. Have not tried with latest version, but I doubt much has been put into cd creation capability.

Just checked on my WMP and you can burn without gaps.
(version 12)

Yes you can and it's pretty easy to do it... Shame that I use that version in my old computer and now I have the windows 7 version, which I have used to burn CDs but I didn't tried to rip in 320kbps... But I'm sure you can do it...

I think Windows Media Player version 12 is for Windows 7, I have XP.

Tools.Options.Rip Music tab. Set rip format to MP3 and move the slider to the right. This sets it to 320kbps. Can't see a burn without gaps option.

I couldn't find Tools on my version (it could be there somewhere), but it does have a Rip button, within this is Format and MP3. Selecting the latter allows you to select 320 Kbps from Bit Rate. Thanks chopper, you're a marvel. As usual, I could not see what was under my nose all the time.
The two second space between tracks is still a mystery.

Maybe you're just hiding the toolbars? Anyway, Snowy says there is an option to remove the gaps but maybe it's just in version 12?

I wasn't aware there was a version 11. Does anyone else distrust the way they keep sneaking in updates on your machine. I always have this sneaking suspicion they are just doing things to make your computer not work as well so you'll upgrade.

Right-click on the tool bar and the "classic" File/Tools/Play/View/Help menu appears - the last option is "Show Classic Menu" select that and the classic menu tool bar is always visible.
Media Player 11 adds 2 second gaps between tracks and this cannot be turned off.
Disc-at-once is a burn option and is not related to the gaps between tracks - even with this option enabled there will be 2 second gaps between tracks.
Apparently you can achieve gapless playback of using media player if you rip the CD in Lossless format - however this does not affect CD burning.
The only solution is not to use Media Player to burn CDs.
