He was speaking to the announcer at the concert I'm listening to.  Maybe that's what he always sounds like.

Like he's stoned.  A deep and gravelly voice.

I do need Miles Davis...as well as more jazz.
Problem is I only know big names/albums.

Guess I'll start there, and buy whatever random stuff I see.

Essential Davis:

Milestones
Kind of Blue
Sketches of Spain
Filles de Kilimanjaro
In A Silent Way
Bitches Brew
A Tribute to Jack Johnson
On the Corner

There's probably other excellent ones too.

Of course Bitches Brew.

I also know Monk was pretty awesome, and I'm blanking but he has that one album that everyone says is like THE jazz album.
OK, I am settled and going to bed.

Well, pretty much all Columbia recordings/sessions really.

I think the Walkin', Cookin', Relaxin', Workin' and Steamin' with The Miles Davis Quintet are also good albums.  I've not heard them yet though.

Failpost.

He meant a Monk album, not a Davis album.
